Ventura Fire awarded $4.07 million grant

The Ventura Fire Department has been awarded a $4.07 million grant for improving Ventura's emergency response!

The award of a federally-funded Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) Grant will support the hiring of 11 firefighter-paramedics, strengthening our ability to respond to simultaneous emergencies, maintain citywide coverage when crews are committed to larger incidents, and support improved emergency response in Ventura and throughout the county under existing Automatic Aid agreements.

The Ventura City Council accepted the grant on October 6, building on their continued investment in emergency preparedness, prevention, and response.

Share feedback on Ventura's Hazard Mitigation Plan

The City of Ventura is seeking community feedback on its section of the Ventura County Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan (MJHMP).

This countywide effort brings together local jurisdictions to identify natural hazards, assess risks to residents and community resources, and prioritize strategies to reduce the impacts of future disasters. Community input will help inform long-term mitigation priorities, strengthen Ventura’s resilience, and support eligibility for federal hazard mitigation funding.

In November 1918, during World War I, at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of that year, an armistice, or temporary cessation of hostilities, was declared between the Allied nations and Germany. Many countries commemorated it the following year as Armistice Day, and in the United States, it became a federal holiday in 1938, known as Veterans Day.
