Ojai Grapevine Disease Demo

UCCE Ventura County hosted a Pierce's Disease Resistant (PD) grapevine demonstration meeting at Ojai Vineyard in July.

Andy Walker, emeritus viticulture professor at UC Davis, discussed breeding for PD resistance and producing five new grape varieties released in 2020. Pierce's disease is caused by the bacterium Xyella fastidiosa, which kills plants by clogging their water-conducting system. Read more: Pierce’s Disease-Resistant Grape Varieties Give Growers Hope.
