The remarkable life of Vermont’s first known Black Sheriff and Chief of Police, Stephen Bates, was commemorated on October 3, 2021, at Vergennes City Park. A short documentary was created by local videographer, Chris Spencer, and is available online to view.
The public is invited to watch the documentary on a larger screen at the Bixby Library on Saturday, Feb. 12th during open hours. For details, check in at the circulation desk. The history of Bates and the recent connections made because of him will be discussed on a special online Black History Month program Saturday, Feb. 26th. For details, go to www.BixbyLibrary.org.

Party (City) On at St. Peter's Parish Hall
|
|
A recent phone call from Vergennes resident Torri Badore lead to huge wins for Addison County nonprofits. A reset of University Mall's Party City (where Torri works) generated the need to quickly move out a TON of merchandise. Offering up all the goods we could handle, the store's only caveat was that the goods were not to be resold, but given away.
Coordinating the effort, Vergennes Partnership invited area nonprofits, schools and churches to - come and get it! Over 40 organizations came to St. Peter's Parish Hall to take what they need for basic supplies - as well as take what they want to ramp up the fun factor at their place of employ!
Special thanks to St. Peter's Catholic Church for the use of the Parish Hall and to the many community members who, in addition to those pictured in the photograph, helped make the giveaway a success. Together we are more.
SO MUCH SUCCESS that we're doing it again. A second haul took place this week; a second opportunity for additional goods!
Come to St. Peter's Parish Wednesday & Thursday (Feb. 2 & 3) from 4:00-6:00pm.
Come one; come all - take it away.
