Flood Recovery Resources

The Tax Department building at 133 State Street is closed to the public due to severe flooding in Montpelier. If you need to reach us during this time, please contact us via email using the appropriate email address from the Department directory or schedule a virtual or telephone appointment. Due to severe flooding around the State, there will be delays in mail and faxed correspondence.

We encourage you to visit our Flood Recovery Resources for tax updates from the State of Vermont and the IRS, as well as other timely information. The page will be updated as necessary to keep you informed, so please check back periodically.

Property Tax Credit Letters Delayed

Our annual Property Tax Credit letters to Vermont homeowners were temporarily delayed due to the severe July flooding, but mailing of these letters has now resumed. The delay in these letters will not affect either eligibility or the amount of the credit.

Beware of Disaster Related Scams

Scammers often use natural disasters to take advantage of community generosity and people's heightened need. The Vermont Attorney General has a list of common disaster-related scams on their Flood Resources webpage.

If you are contacted by a scammer, hang up the phone or delete the email. You may report the call or interaction at the Vermont Attorney General's Consumer Assistance Program.

Compliance Tip: 1099 Income

You must report all 1099 income when you file income tax, even if you did not receive a Form 1099 from a payer. Visit the Compliance Corner Tips and News to learn more.
