Verona Road Business Coalition

Request Joint Finance Committee To Fund Transportation Projects

Verona Road Business Coalition is working with other statewide organizations in an effort to have the Joint Finance Committee (JFC) approve WisDOT's request for $350 million in contingency bonding that was approved in the State budget. We ask that you consider sending a letter to your region's legislative team supporting that bonding. The Governor proposed borrowing $1.3 billion for transportation in the new biennial budget, but the legislature reduced that to $500 million with an option to add $350 million later upon JFC approval of the contingency bonding, that is the subject of this request.

For your consideration,  click here for a sample letter for your use in communicating with your legislators in support of this much needed funding. As background, WisDOT Secretary Gottleib's October 19th letter to the JFC has been provided. This will be helpful in understanding the local impacts.

Please contact Cindy Jaggi, VRBC's Project Manager, with any questions. Cindy can be reached at cjaggiedp@tds.net.

TDA Report: Highway Projects

The VRBC worked in collaboration with the Transportation Development Association of Wisconsin to release a new report that quantifies the benefit of not delaying four highway projects and the impact on Wisconsin's economy.  The report, entitled The Benefits of Modernizing Wisconsin's Highway Corridors, details not only the short-term impact of the construction of the project but the on-going benefits to businesses.

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Fiscal and Economic Research Center (FERC) was contracted to conduct analysis of the economic impact of the remaining amounts to be spent on the highway improvements and the growth of ancillary businesses in the affected communities.

The four projects analyzed are I-39/90 from Madison to the Wisconsin-Illinois state line, U.S. Highway 10/State Highway 441 in the Fox River Valley,  U.S. Highway 151/Verona Road on Madison's west side, State Highway 23 between Fond du Lac and Plymouth.

The Verona Road project was studied in the report and will contribute to the region's economy as follows:
Short-term economic impact from construction Over $250 million and almost 500 jobs.
On-going benefits to businesses:  Almost $16 million annually which will support over 150 jobs.
