Version 2022 is Here!

We’ve heard you and we’ve taken action. It has been a long journey getting to an updated version of the PHAB Standards & Measures, designed to both reflect the public health field and move us forward in public health practice. After years of input from the field, including think tanks, expert panels, and feedback from health departments, and a thorough vetting process, PHAB is excited to announce the release of Version 2022.

Version 2022

You will notice many updates in Version 2022, both within the Standards & Measures and our processes, that we hope will make accreditation more accessible and efficient for health departments:

Streamlined Process and Reduced Documentation: The Standards & Measures have been streamlined to reduce documentation for initial accreditation and clarify requirements by providing additional examples in the guidance. There are 10 Domains, instead of 12, to align with the 10 Essential Public Health Services and some requirements have been more closely aligned with existing public health requirements and programs.

Readiness Support and Training: We have taken a careful look at the services we provide and the systems that are currently in place to support accreditation and the accreditation process. Materials and trainings are being redesigned to be more accessible and digestible. Training will also be made available earlier in the accreditation process as a better way to assess your readiness to apply and gain more support from PHAB.

Updated Fee Structure: To support our health departments more efficiently, PHAB fees have been simplified and reduced. We eliminated the one-time initial accreditation and reaccreditation fee and introduced a significantly smaller Readiness & Training fee to help health departments assess their accreditation readiness before the application for initial accreditation and provide valuable training on the accreditation process. Version 2022 goes into effect July 1, 2022.

Health departments seeking initial accreditation may begin applying under Version 2022 beginning July 1, 2022. Interested in applying for accreditation before then? Consider the highlights of Version 2022 to help you decide.
Health departments whose application for reaccreditation has a current due date in the year 2022 or will be due in 2022 will have the option to select between the current reaccreditation Standards & Measures and Version 2022.
