Dear Family of St. Francis

By now, most all of you have received “the letter” announcing with honest and heartfelt care that I shall retire. Read the full text here. My last day in my beloved St Francis community is on January 31, 2021.

A shock for us all including me but, as I wrote, I discerned that I had come to a place of fullness and completeness and that it is time. God has made us ready to embrace a new year and a new decade in the power and love of God. “Transition is organic” as The Rev. Tom Quijada-Discavage described last night at Vestry as he presented the process and guidelines for the transition and discernment of the eventual choice of a new Rector.

Through taking one step at a time, the grace of God will strengthen all of us to trust the grace of God to lead. Emotions are real. And it will be so very painful to leave a family of God that has meant everything to me. But I shall have “left it all on the field”…in ministry moments and human moments of loving presence with you. We have blessed one another and made a difference in the world and with one another in our time together. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

But, all this is unfolding as the coronavirus is on a dramatic upsurge. We need to continue our prayers and vigilance. Outdoor in-person worship might be shut down. We shall have to wait and see. Stay tuned.

Meanwhile, as of this writing, I hope to see you this Sunday at 9am with reservations (sent to me) in front of the church or online at 10am. Communion-only is available at 11:15. Please text - 310-995-6519 - or email me to register for all services and events. We need your reservations for contact tracing if needed.

As of this writing, this Sunday is the last 9am service in-person, livestreamed as a pilot to work out kinks we experienced the first time. Our goal is to have one, live streamed service, in-person at 10am starting on Nov. 29, the first Sunday of Advent. We are hoping to have an outdoor Christmas Eve service at 5pm…stay tuned.

May God bless and guide us in every matter under the heavens. We are in this together, now and always,
With love and care for each of you,

Thanksgiving - November 26th
8:30 am - Paula+ will offer a Thanksgiving Service as part of her usual Morning Prayer.

Thank you for your continuing love and support of St Francis.
I look forward to seeing you !!
Please remember - on campus, you must wear a face mask covering your mouth and nose, and keep 6 (yes SIX!) feet distance from people not in your household, at all times. If you have a cough or do not feel well then take care of yourself and stay at home. Also - if you have traveled out of State, please do not come onto campus for 14 days after your return.
At 6' your outstretched arms should have several inches of space between fingertips.
Look how much we collected for Harbor Interfaith's Thanksgiving food drive! Thank you to everyone who donated.
And look out for news of our Christmas Food Drive - coming soon.
Dear Families of St Francis!
Join our Zoom Sunday School this Sunday!
The link will be provided in Saturday's Families enews.
And open your Families email on Saturday for news of how to get your Advent Wreath-making kit.
Be together - 5 days a week, as well as Sundays.
Morning prayer twice-weekly, led by Paula+, and Compline three times per week, led by Jude+ and a team of lay leaders. Each service includes the traditional service, plus words from the leader, and explanations of the readings. They are prayerful and quiet, a far cry from the turmoil of the world, and medicine to help us heal and be comforted and inspired.
