Rally Day

Join us for Rally Day between the services on September 11. Hear about all the Christian Formation offerings from Bill Parton and Melissa Simpson as they share all that we have for this year and enjoy a breakfast from 9am to 10 am prepared by our young adults.

Everybody Here Has A Ministry. What's Yours?

All Saints' welcomes all people and invites them to participate in the sacred work of loving the world in God's name. As a community, we do that in many ways, and on Rally Day, Sunday, September 11, we will introduce you to them.

How might you join in the ministries of our parish? Would you like to be formed more deeply though Bible study or shared contemplative practice? Do you feel called to a ministry of hospitality or creation care? Might you serve among those who assist with worship? Take a look at the various ministries of our church and find one or two that interest you. Reach out to the contact person, and let them know that you would like to know more about that ministry. If you have gifts and ideas that are not already reflected in an existing ministry, let anyone on the Vestry know and we can dream together about what new ministries God might be calling us to pursue. Whatever your gifts, All Saints' is a place where you can use them to God's glory, and we hope that you will join us in doing just that.

Vestry Notes

Help wanted!

Rhonda Hlass has generously scheduled the altar party (Eucharistic ministers, acylates etc.) for services for some time. She is needing to step away from this position. We need someone who is willing to pick up this task. It is a wonderful group of people to work with but it does take little bit of time. If you are interested in helping out with this very important

ministry, please let the office or myself know. When you see Rhonda, please thank her for her time!

We have a Stewardship Chair.

Travis Simpson has agreed to take on this role. He has a lot going on in his life, husband of Melissa, father of four, the new editor of The Courier – whew! Travis, thank you. More than Enough is the theme for this year’s stewardship. As we are in the midst of a rector search, I do not need to tell you how important this campaign is. This stewardship campaign is our opportunity to take inventory of our spiritual resources, determine

the strength of our community, and recognize our capacity for generosity and that there is now, and always has been, More Than Enough. Stay tuned.

Rally Sunday is one of my favorite days of the year. The new program year is kicked off with Church, breakfast and fellowship. What could be better? This year you do not need to bring anything. Breakfast will be provided by the young adults in the parish. Rally Sunday provides us

with an opportunity to learn what parish life has to offer. There will be information on the Ministry Teams - which all need volunteers, the choir, Sunday school classes, EYC, young adults, Neighbors Table, yard work, etc.

The Search Committee has placed an advertisement in The Episcopal News Service. This is the link. Please take the time to take a look at this. The group is working hard.

A new Creation-Care project at All Saints’

And, a project for “Building-Care”, too; water is no longer pooling against the slab foundations of our building and potentially causing them to shift and the tile floors to crack because last spring the Vestry took action. They authorized the Grounds Committee and the Jr. Warden in charge of the churchyard (Candy Welcher) to explore options for constructing a drainage

system. Several possibilities were explored and informal bids were obtained from several companies. The work is complete and now the water that falls on our roof will no longer flow directly onto the top of the new AC units or form ponds between the west façade of our building and the circle drive. There are new gutters on the south side of our building (funded

by a donation) and a complex underground drainage system all along the west façade (funded by All Saints’). Drainage was also improved along our south and east walls.

The experts we consulted agreed that planting more bushes and trees close up against the church building’s foundation (and subsequent watering of these plants) could hamper our efforts to dry out the ground around our building. Consequently, visions of bird friendly landscaping and plans to make the west front entrance of our building more beautiful were re-

directed to the “island” between Phoenix and our circle drive. You can see beginning of those efforts in the new native stone raised planting bed that Candy Welcher has constructed around the big green and white All Saints’ sign. Bird, bee, and butterfly friendly plants, most natives of Arkansas, will be placed in that bed, which now contains a mix of topsoil and compost placed over aerated ground. Money for the soil and plants (and a detailed landscaping plan by Little Rock Architect Jennifer Polk) came from donations.

What’s left to do? We need to construct a visual barrier to shield the big air conditioning units from view and proceed with the landscape architect’s suggestions to plant an understory of dogwood and redbuds among the two groves of large oak trees that grace the island. If you have ideas about construction of an attractive shield for the AC units, please let me know.

Neighbors Table Update

Last week 116 meals were served drive through and 39 delivered to families in the community and parish. Our barbecue chicken sandwiches were very much enjoyed. The chicken was a gift from Sarah Azami. In Loaves and Fishes we were able to offer fresh eggs thanks to our Blue and You grant specifically for healthy fruits, veggies and proteins. We are grateful to everyone who helps us keep in compliance with our State Laws for our Certified Kitchen. Thank you.

This week our partners from First Christian Church are leading the meal. They are planning sloppy joes, fruit salad with fresh and canned fruit, and cookies for dessert. Each meal will also have a piece of fresh fruit, mozzarella cheese sticks and a granola bar. We will prepare 155 meals, using food from the Arkansas Foodbank.

Please keep Neighbors Table in your prayers. We greatly appreciate the many helpers who pray for us and contribute their time, talent, and treasure! If you would like to know more, or volunteer, please contact Charlie Tyrone, (479) 857-0480, [email protected].

Cereal, Dish Soap, Toilet Paper, Shampoo, Toothbrushes ; Toothpaste for Loaves and Fishes

Loaves and Fishes, a part of the Neighbors Table ministry, asks for donations of cereal, dish soap, toilet paper and shampoo to provide to our guests. Also needed are soft and medium toothbrushes and toothpaste. Children’s toothbrushes are welcome donations. Please place your gifts in the Loaves and Fishes Wagon in the nave.

As a reminder, you can support Neighbors Table with a donation to Food Ministries in the Giving tab at the All Saints’ webpage.

NT is also asking for reusable bags to help distribute our Loaves and Fishes

items on Saturday. If you have any extras, please bring to church.

Practicing Prayer

This week we will begin with 20 minutes of silent prayer, and then continue with Lectio

Divina with a poem by Chelan Hawkin, “The Worst Thing.”

All are welcome! To receive a copy of this poem, and to receive a Zoom invitation, please

email Catherine Crews, [email protected], with your contact information.

We pray for those who have birthdays this week: Rebecca Franks and Bruce Davenport.

O God, our times are in your hand: Look with favor, we pray, on

your servants as they begin another year. Grant that they may grow

in wisdom and grace, and strengthen their trust in your goodness

all the days of their lives; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

For those celebrating an anniversary this week: Ken and Karen Futterer

O gracious and everliving God, look mercifully upon your servants who come to renew the promises they have made to each other. Grant them your blessing, and assist them with your grace, that with true fidelity and steadfast love they may honor and keep their promises and vows; through Jesus Christ our Savior, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Please let the office know if your birthday or anniversary has been missed, so that we may add the date to our records.
