A Spotlight on Veteran Enriched Neighborhoods®
|
|
As you know, six more families moved into their beautiful new homes in Phase 1 of our Palmdale VEN®! The cost to build homes has continued to rise throughout COVID-19, especially for non-profit builders like Homes 4 Families who cannot rely on the usual volunteer builds by corporations and others. While some affordable housing developers are having to raise the costs of their homes, we are dedicated to helping the lowest income families possible. But to do so, we need your help!

Through the “A Community Thrives” program, we need to receive $6,000 or more in your donations by August 12th to be eligible for a $100,000 grant.
Please help and donate through the link above to help us reach our goal and move more of our Veterans into their homes.

Laneta McBride (above), a Navy Veteran and one of the newest homeowners to move into our Palmdale neighborhood, shared with us that her son Brandon (right) has followed in her footsteps and joined the Army!
Congratulations, Brandon!

In June, Homes 4 Families took a trip with Mission Fish, a non-profit whose mission, like ours, is to serve veterans. Our veterans spent a whole day deep-sea fishing and reported back that it was a great experience. They found that it both helped foster new bonds of friendship and that a day spent out on the ocean provided a relaxed and calming experience. We look forward to a continued partnership with Mission Fish and will be having another excursion soon!

"... thank you so much for the fishing trip yesterday. I had a really good time, met some really nice friends, and had a blast! I love fishing but for some reason, it’s not the same as before after coming home from deployment. Yesterday was one of my best days; being around veteran buddies was like when I used to go before. Thank you so much for doing this for us—you guys are lifesavers ..."

To celebrate the 4th of July Homes 4 Families invited the Palmdale Veteran families to join us at the My TIME® Center for some outdoor crafts, food, and games. The families had the opportunity to mingle with their future neighbors and celebrate the holiday.

Our annual Rainbow Build engages neighborhoods, corporations, and the LGBTQ+ community in Homes 4 Families' mission to build resiliency, economic growth, neighborhoods, and homes for Veteran families.
This build brings people together to not only build homes but to learn about housing issues impacting the LBGTQ+ community among Veterans.

On June 19, 2021, we held our first Key Ceremony for the Palmdale Veteran Enriched Neighborhood®. We welcomed our first 16 families to the neighborhood they helped to build by giving them ceremonial keys and hearing them talk about what the milestone means to their families. The veterans also buried the time capsules they created in our My TIME® program. Thank you to CalVet Secretary Imbasciani, Congressman Mike Garcia, LA County Supervisor Kathryn Barger, Mayor Hofbauer, and City Manager JJ Murphy for your encouraging words and support, and to Lou and Joyce Gonzales and AV Chevy for your incredible donations!

FUNDER SPOTLIGHT
Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation
|
|
Thank you to the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation who recently awarded Homes 4 Families with a grant to fund home-building and services! Like the Dodgers and LADF, we believe strongly in prevention and early interventions that help keep families out of the endless cycles of homelessness, poverty, and loss of hope. They are really putting the Home in Home Team! We are excited to have you out to build with us soon!
About the Los Angeles Dodger’s Foundation
ESPN’s Sports Humanitarian Team of the Year, the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation is bigger than baseball with ambitions to be the city’s premier charity. We envision a city where everyone regardless of zip code has the opportunity to thrive. We are tackling the most pressing problems facing Los Angeles with a mission to improve education, health care, homelessness and social justice for all Angelenos. Since 1995, we have invested more than $30 million in programs and grants to nonprofits, and fundraising has increased by 1,000% since 2012. That growth has enabled us to do more.

High Desert Broadcasting has been a media partner to Homes 4 Families for over 3 years. They generously donate talent to record PSAs, and air time to help Homes 4 Families reach potential Veteran homeowners. These ads run four times a day on each of their six stations, for a total of 4,200 airings this year alone! We are so thankful to High Desert Broadcasting both for their donations, and for helping low-income veterans learn about our homeownership program. If you aren’t listening already, make sure to tune into one of their stations the next time you’re in the Antelope Valley.
