This Is Why We Do What We Do
A 49-yr-old disabled USN Female Veteran in Longmont needed a new radiator for her 2001 Ford F250 pickup. Her husband is recovering from kidney surgery, two children at home, and living on disability. The vehicle overheated and couldn't be driven much of a distance. The pickup is their only vehicle and is necessary for the family mode of transportation. The truck also needed spark plugs and coils. The husband purchased eight plugs but could only install part of them because of his disability. The Veteran submitted three repair estimates. Qualified Listeners spoke with each business to determine which vendor would be the best fit. The selected repair shop provided a Veteran’s discount and installed the remaining plugs and coils. The vendor repaired the car on time and at the quoted cost. Qualified Listeners facilitated repair funding with Berthoud American Legion Post 67 through their state DMVA Grant. Here’s what the Veteran had to say, “My goodness, we cannot begin to thank you enough. Our truck runs like a kitten. She is good to go. Thank y’all a million times. Qualified Listeners ROCKS!”

We have the best volunteers!
On Saturday, May 22, 2021, we held our quarterly volunteer meeting at VFW Post 1781 in Fort Collins, with lunch provided to the 23 attendees by Auxiliary member Rennie Day. The power of these meetings is to meet new volunteers, stay in touch with each other, and productively collaborate on updates, questions, opportunities, and challenges.

Seeking Reputable Resources
Since we cover such a large geographic area of Colorado and Wyoming, we cannot be in every community, so we ask for your help. We need to create a list of excellent service providers in your area, such as plumbers, electricians, lawn care, painting, sprinkler systems, handypersons, home contractors, moving companies, home cleaning, and others. We want to find business owners who recognize that their freedom to own a business comes from Veterans. They also need to work with us on pricing. If you’ve had success in working with a Veteran-friendly company, please let us know so we can reach out to them.
