If you want to be a part of supporting Veterans on Veteran’s Day, here are some ideas:

  • Contact your local VFW, American Legion, or other Veteran organizations to see if they have a Veterans Day event planned and volunteer your help
  • Take a Veteran to lunch
  • Bring a nourishing meal into a Veteran’s home
  • Invite a Veteran to your home for dinner
  • Arrange a neighborhood potluck dinner for a Veteran family
  • Schedule a time to visit a Veteran in person either at their home, nursing home, or other care facility
  • Phone a Veteran to let them know they’re not forgotten
  • Send a “thinking of you” card or letter
  • Don’t forget there are also women Veterans
  • Above all, be sure to thank Veterans for their service

You don’t have to wait until Veterans Day to do any of the above. If you know of a Veteran in need, whether it’s Veterans Day or any other day, please contact us. Our job is to listen and assist.

What is form DD-215?

Form DD-215 is a revised form which corrects possible errors or omissions from the original Form DD-214.Your DD-214 and other records can change over time regardless of when you were discharged from the military. Form DD-215 is an update of your military history and can show you may be eligible for medals, accommodations, and possible benefits you may not be aware of. It is a legal and accepted form of proof of service. A Veteran Service Officer is trained to help you with this. You will need your DD-214 and proper identification to start the process.

STOP Catalytic Converter Thefts

Due to an upsurge in catalytic converter thefts, you can obtain a Catalytic Converter Anti-Theft Kit to protect against a very expensive part of your vehicle from being stolen. Many police departments are making the kits available at no charge but they will have to be installed by an automotive repair shop. The process involves a permanent etching on the unit which ties back to the vehicle VIN number. Catalytic converters contain rare and expensive materials which bring high-dollar at a salvage yard. Hybrid vehicles are especially targeted. Some auto insurance companies no longer provide coverage on catalytic converters because of the high risk of theft.

This Is Why We Do What We Do

Rental Nightmare

A 55-year-old Navy Veteran in Cheyenne was in payment arrears of almost $1,500 and on the verge of getting his utilities shut off as a result of no income because of three months of hospitalization from a rare post-surgical staff infection. We paid the past due amount, reconnect fee, and deposit amount. This is what the Veteran had to say: “I’ve never felt so close to death before. The doctors saved my life and Qualified Listeners saved my sanity. I’ll never be able to thank you enough.”

Propane Payment

We were contacted by the daughter of a 90-year-old Navy Veteran in rural Weld County, Colorado asking for help in paying for two deliveries of propane fuel spanning the last six months to her father’s home. The Veteran lives alone in a mobile home several miles from the nearest town. Because he has been a long-time customer of the propane company and hearing that Qualified Listeners will pay the bill in full, the company was agreeable to waiving the late fees. We received a tearful thank you from the daughter as well as a separate thank you from the propane company.

A Thank You Note for Being Nice?

One of our Family Care Coordinators received the following in a card after a phone conversation from a Fort Collins Veteran who called to just ask questions. “Thank you! You really helped an old vet! You are angels. I hope I don’t need you after this … but knowing you’re there brings me hope.” (September 2023)
