ICYMI- Last week VBH, Lowe's Hardware, and the Carolina Panthers teamed up to build an outdoor workout facility at Veterans Park in Charlotte, NC.

STAT OF THE WEEK- 155,750 . That is the number of masks handed out to the community this week thanks to Atrium Health and our volunteers that assisted in the give away. Shout-out to Aaron Harper for helping VBH get connected to this impact event.

BOB WOODRUFF FOUNDATION RELEASES LATEST INSIGHTS INTO HOW COMMUNITIES COLLABORATE TO SUPPORT VETERANS- When veterans transition out of military service and face new challenges, there is no “one-size-fits-all” solution waiting to greet them. The communities they come home to play a major role in ensuring that our veterans and military families have access to the resources and services they need to thrive. To best address the current and emerging needs of veterans and their families, the Bob Woodruff Foundation (BWF) surveyed our network of more than 100 veteran-focused collaboratives and published  Community Collaboration For America’s Veterans: Insights From The Bob Woodruff Foundation’s Local Partner Self-Assessment Tool , an original research paper based on the results of that assessment.
LAWMAKERS SEEK TRANSITION ASSISTANCE PROGRAM CHANGE TO INCREASE CIVILIAN SUCCESS- U.S. Rep. Mike Levin , D- Calif., introduced legislation to adjust how service members are placed in counseling pathways provided by the  Transition Assistance Program .

NEW INITIATIVE AIMS TO PUT 'DIVISIVE SYMBOLS' ON 'NO-FLY LIST,' ARMY SECRETARY SAYS- The  Army’s latest initiative  to tackle racial bias within its ranks intends to remove “anything that is a divisive symbol” from formations, which could potentially include the Confederate flag, the service’s top civilian leader said Thursday.

STATES PETITION FOR FEDERAL NATIONAL GUARD ORDERS TO BE EXTENDED FOR CORONAVIRUS RESPONSE- Governors of 31 states and territories are asking the Defense Department for funding to keep National Guardsmen on COVID-19 response missions through late fall and possibly the end of the year, a Pentagon spokesman said.

VETERANS AFFAIRS COVID CASES REACH HIGHEST LEVELS YET, BUT HOSPITALIZATION RATES KEEP HEADING DOWNWARD- Veterans Affairs hospitals hit their highest levels of active coronavirus cases this week, but department officials say the hospitalization rates of those patients has also reached its lowest levels since the start of the pandemic.
