Dear Lakeside Community,
Veteran's Day is tomorrow, a day where we give thanks to those who served. The day reminds me of the service given by my father who was in the Navy during the Korean War and my grandfather who served in World War II. I hope you and your families have time to talk about the sacrifice that so many have made for the freedoms we have in the United States.
I feel strongly about reiterating the need to support our students through the aftermath of the presidential election.
PLEASE take the time this weekend to talk to your children in a developmentally, age-appropriate way that our nation is built upon diversity of thought.
We are Americans. We believe in democracy and sometimes democracy is difficult. Everyone gets a voice, but we should never use that voice to cause harm, pain, or insult to each other. We have to treat one another with respect and compassion.
is an article that might be helpful. If your child needs support, let me know. Our counselor, Mia, has openings in her schedule.
STEM has been a big thing here at Lakeside this year. We held our second school-wide
STEM Challenge. The third is in the works - clothing designed from recyclables that will be featured on Wednesday, November 16th during lunchtime. We tried out the interest in an after school STEM program and filled it in under two hours.
Parents whose children were one of the first 15 have been notified, and the 12 on the wait list will be the first we'll offer slots for the next session. The next session is tentatively scheduled for Wednesdays from 1:30- 3 pm on January 4, 11, 18, 25 and February 1, 8. Announcements will go out in mid December.
A few reminders:
A. Report cards will go home on Friday, November 18th.
B. The Annual Multicultural Festival will take place on Friday, November 18th starting around 11:15 am.
C. We are again participating in the
Second Harvest Food Bank's food drive.
Please bring in items by Friday, November 18th. Bins for each class will be in the entry hallway to the school.
The Food Bank needs nutritious, non-perishable foods. Suggested items are:
• Meals in a can (stew, chili, soup)
• Canned meat, tuna vegetables and/or fruit packed in juice
• Peanut butter (no glass containers please!)
• Low-sugar cereals
• 100% fruit juices in single serving boxes
PTA needs your help with
Pizza Lunch Wednesday.
Several spots have opened in November, we're hoping for some help in getting these filled. Visit
to help us fill in the remaining spots.
ook Fair will be held November 14th to 18th,
before and after school in the Community Center. This is a great way to buy books before the holidays and encourage reading! We are still looking for volunteers to help: http://signup.com/go/KLMpEu
the Governing Board met on November 2nd and passed a resolution to put a parcel tax on a mail in ballot in March in the amount of $674/parcel. More will come on that when we have the information back from the Registrar of Voters in early 2017.
