I was the lead sponsor on a hearing addressing the lack of investment in Boston Public School athletics for our students. As a mother of student athletes (Go BLA Dragons!) who benefitted in so many ways from their time on school teams, and as a public school teacher who knows that educating the whole child has to include physical and social wellness to be successful, I am the right person to fight for school sports for our BPS kids. I know how participation on a school team, whether it’s volleyball, cheering, football, or soccer, can transform a youngster’s life, increasing motivation and a sense of inclusion, and knitting together a closer school and neighborhood community. Our children deserve better and I will continue to advocate so all students, no matter what school they are at, get opportunities to participate in a range of athletics! Boston Public Schools Transportation

“TheTransportation System is in disarray," Murphy said. "Families and students need more transparency and accountability."

I sponsored a hearing regarding BPS transportation. The Boston Public Schools transportation budget is over $110 million, which makes up about 10% of the district's spending. The councilors said costs have continued to rise even as enrollment has declined. Use this link to learn more and watch the hearing.

Our Boston Public Schools Custodians deserve a fair and just contract. They have been working throughout the pandemic with no contract. Here is my statement in support of our dedicated custodians that keep our school open and clean.

Boston Fire Fighters Promotional Exam

The cancelation of the Boston Firefighters' Civil Service Exams is a public safety threat that will delay further leadership promotions and hires. I call on the Massachusetts Civil Service Commission to reinstate such exams.

A subsidiary of St. Mary’s Center located in East Boston, Crossroads Family Center, provides family shelter, case management, housing search, stabilization services and a food pantry to more than 70 families each year. Crossroads was established in 1985 in response to the well-documented housing crisis which led low-income families into homelessness.

Congratulations Lully Morgado-Joyce on your new career with the City of Boston. We are lucky to have you and so are our Municipal Police. Good luck and stay safe.

Excel High JROTC

It was a pleasure to attend their Partnership Breakfast to celebrate the work they do with the Boston Police. Their mission is to help young people make positive life choices through trusting relationships with skilled and compassionate social workers. YouthConnect social workers are champions of social justice.

By placing social workers in police stations to provide voluntary prevention, intervention, advocacy, and mental health services, YouthConnect works to address the underlying problems and social emotional issues that contribute to juvenile crime and delinquency by working with the entire family, not just the youth. Since 1996, YouthConnect has assisted over 17,000 youth and families.

Thank you to everyone who came out to our event at the Industry in Dorchester. It was great to see everyone and spend some time together.
