State Chamber Update
Among the responsibilities all of us share is to help those born into a relatively peaceful world understand that the individual freedoms we enjoy were hard-fought successes and are sustained every day with immeasurable sacrifice. I have three college-age children that fit this definition and were born into a civilian household. By contrast, my father was a military police officer and was stationed in Japan at the end of World War II. He would recount stories from his time there and those experiences undoubtedly made him the person he was, and made an impression on my two older sisters and me. Currently, I am participating as an Honorary Commander of the Delaware National Guard. These and similar programs give ordinary citizens a glimpse of what it's like to serve in the armed forces. The Delaware National Guard Honorary Commander program, for example, seeks to inform and educate civilian leaders, business owners, educators and elected officials by pairing them with military commanders of military units.
There are ways you and your business can help retired or active duty men and women, especially as an employer. Does your company stand behind our military? Do you hire military members, family members of the military? Do you or your employees help prepare our men and women in uniform, or veterans for the workplace?
