Dear Providence,


As we approach Veterans Day, annually observed on November 11, I would like to take a moment to thank and honor all veterans for their services. Their sacrifices have contributed to our national safety, and for that, I am ever grateful.


According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Fairfax County is home to more than 65,000 military veterans and about 13,000 active personnel. As a way to honor our nation's heroes, I am sharing a list of upcoming events and activities, programs, services, and resources below.


In the same spirit, we can reflect on the many things we are grateful for: your help to make Fairfax a greater place to live, work, play, and visit. If you want to give back to our community, a few opportunities are listed below. And I welcome more ideas you may have to share. Please send the information to my office.

Ways to Give Back

Providence District Food Drive


We are still collecting unopened and unexpired food donations until Thursday, November 16th! Your donations will benefit the Oakton High School Pantry, the Falls Church High School Pantry, the Woodson High School Pantry, and the Lamb Center.


This year's partners include Miller Heights HOA, Tysons Community Alliance, the Rotonda Condominium Unit Owners Association, Girl Scout Troop 1489, Celebrate Fairfax, Mantua Citizens' Association, and the Dunn Loring Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department. Thank you for your generosity!

Providence District Winter Gear Drive


My office will collect winter gear of all sizes beginning Monday, November 27th to benefit the Committee for Helping Others, Fairfax F.I.S.H., Second Story, and the Lamb Center.

Virtual Stuff the Bus


Help feed Fairfax County families in need without leaving the house. This year, giving has never been easier as the Fairfax County Stuff the Bus campaign has gone virtual. Through November 30th, individuals and community groups can make monetary donations directly to local non-profit organizations that provide food assistance in Fairfax County.

Thanksgiving Meals for Oakton HS Families


Since 2016, the Oakton Pantry has helped coordinate Thanksgiving meal donations for Oakton High School students and families in need. You are welcome to sign up to provide Thanksgiving meal packages or Walmart gift cards. Donations must be dropped off on Monday November 20th between 7:30am to 10am.

Britepaths' Holiday Meals


Join Britepaths in helping local families put food on the table and ensuring a season of joy for all our neighbors. During this time of year, families face increasing expenses and more difficult choices.

FACETS' Thanksgiving Food Drive


FACETS is accepting donations of non-perishable food and gift cards through Wednesday, November 15th. You are also welcome to make a donation through their Amazon Wishlist or make a tax-deductible gift.


Food and gift cards can be dropped off at FACETS Main Office, 10700 Page Avenue, Building B, Fairfax, VA 22030.

Volunteer at Food for Others


The holiday season is an especially busy time for food pantries. In FY22, over 40% of work done at Food for Others (FFO) was performed by volunteers. Volunteers assist with a variety of tasks. Check out their upcoming opportunities.

Community Cleanup


Fall is a great time to organize a community cleanup around your school, neighborhood, office building, or any other area in need of beautification. Clean Fairfax can support your cleanup efforts by providing free supplies such as gloves, trash bags, and high-visibility vests as needed. These supplies are mailed to your school or nearest District Center.

Community Meetings for Fairfax Connector's Proposed June 2024 Service Changes


Fairfax County Department of Transportation (FCDOT) will hold two virtual community meetings to share proposed June 2024 service changes to Fairfax Connector bus service on routes throughout the county to improve reliability, frequency, and connectivity for customers.

Route 29 Bicyclist & Pedestrian Improvements


I was thrilled to celebrate the new shared-use path along Route 29 between Vaden Dr. and Nutley St. This project constructed missing segments of the shared-use path and improved access to the Vienna Metro station for pedestrians and bicyclists.

Community Update on Richmond Highway BRT


The Fairfax County Department of Transportation will provide updates on the Richmond Highway Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project including what has been completed, a recap of decisions and milestones, and next steps. The meeting will be on January 31, 2024 at the Bryant High School Auditorium (2709 Popkins Lane).
