Veterans Day Recognition

November 11th

It is important we not let November 11th pass without recognizing the sacrifices our veterans have made to keep our country safe. We at VDP would like to take the time to express our sincere appreciation to all the attorneys and public defense staff who sacrificed their comfort and needs for our country. We encourage you to recognize your clients and staff who have served in our armed forces.

Special thanks to the veterans who

work for NYSDA's VDP:

Roy Diehl, VDP Deputy Director;

Michael White, VDP Case Manager;

Juan Sosa, VDP Case Manager; and Amanda Luce, VDP Case Manager.

Military Records

A Treasure Trove of Useful Information

So, you have an Army veteran as a client facing felony DUI charges. You know there is something in their military service that got them to this point in life, but what was it? Important and useful information lurks in the client’s military records. Dates of service, military occupation and education, awards, decorations, deployments and time served overseas and at sea, character of service at discharge and the reason for separation – and this is what you get from one document, the DD-214! Records may have so much more, you just need to look.
