💖 Breast Cancer Awareness Month: Fight Together

October reminds us that courage comes in many forms. Some carry it on the battlefield; Some carry it on the battlefield; others carry it through life’s toughest challenges.

At BVSJ, we’re reminded that strength isn’t only shown in combat — it’s also found in the quiet resilience of women who keep showing up, keep fighting, and keep believing, no matter the challenge.

This month, we honor every warrior — in pink — whose fight inspires us to keep going, keep believing, and keep supporting one another.

💗 Schedule your screening, encourage a loved one, and help spread awareness.

⚾ Honoring Jackie Robinson: A Legacy of Service and Courage

We’re proud to support an inspiring Veterans Day event honoring the life and service of Jackie Robinson — a man who broke barriers both on and off the field.

Before becoming a baseball legend, Jackie Robinson wore the uniform of the United States Army, standing for dignity, discipline, and equality long before stepping onto the diamond. His courage in the face of adversity continues to inspire generations of veterans who know what it means to serve with integrity and purpose.

This event, hosted by the Jackie Robinson Museum, will explore how Robinson’s military service connects to the experiences of Black service members and veterans today. The conversation will feature Richard Brookshire, Co-Founder and Co-CEO of the Black Veterans Project; Viviana DeCohen, Commissioner of the New York State Department of Veterans’ Services; and Jeffrey T. Sammons, Professor Emeritus at NYU, led by moderator Bradford William Davis.

We’re honored to stand alongside partners like KeyBank and NY StateVeterans’ Services in celebrating Robinson’s enduring impact.

🎟️. Get your tickets today before the event is sold out! Admission is free for Veterans, Active-Duty Military, and Federal Employees

🧠 World Mental Health Day — October 10

Each year on October 10, we pause to recognize World Mental Health Day — a reminder that mental wellness is just as vital as physical health. For many veterans, the invisible wounds of service continue long after deployment. In fact, more than 1 in 3 veterans struggle with mental health challenges.

At Black Veterans for Social Justice, we’re committed to breaking the stigma and providing real support through our SSG Fox Suicide Prevention Program — offering counseling, peer connection, and crisis intervention for veterans in need.

If you or someone you know is a veteran who could use support, please reach out. You are not alone — help and hope are here. ❤️
