Teachers Focus on Best-Practices and New Methods
On November 6, the day school was closed for students, your children's teachers attended a day of professional development led by colleagues as well as consultants. 

Sessions ranged from social-emotional learning to best ways to integrate technology into the classroom.

Fourth Graders Focus on New York
Fourth graders focus on New York State history and geography in social studies, and enjoy a variety of hands-on projects that reinforce the content.

This fall, students have created tourism brochures for New York, mapped New York's mountains, rivers, and coastline, and harvested the “three sisters” of corn, squash, and beans which were planted last spring according to Iroquois custom .
Veterans Visit John Jay Middle School
All John Jay Middle School students were encouraged to invite family members who had served in the military to the Veterans Day Assembly last week.

The morning included breakfast together and a tribute to those who served with a program largely led by eighth graders.

Field of Honor Raises Awareness and Funds for Veterans
During the Field of Honor Dedication Ceremony, members of the JJ4Vets club named all one hundred of the veterans that the flags in front of the school honored. 

One student, senior Devin Wortman, had the honor of reading three of his own grandparents’ names.  

Enter "The Twilight Zone" November 15 - 17
John Jay Middle School’s Drama Club presents "The Twilight Zone," Rod Serling’s landmark sci-fi television series, on stage. The play includes "Nick of Time," "To Serve Man," and "The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street."

Shows are November 15 and November 16 at 7:00 pm, and November 17 at 1:00 pm and 7:00 pm. Tickets are $10 at the door and at BrownPaperTickets.com.
Congratulations, Senior Athletes!
Ten senior athletes each signed a Letter of Intent to play soccer, lacrosse, baseball, field hockey, or swim at a Division I or II college.
