Victoria Park Wildlife Corner
WILDLIFE OF VICTORIA PARK
by John Serrao
The Greenhouse Frog
It seems that not every alien animal that takes up residence in Florida becomes invasive and problematical. For example, we have 3 species of frogs that were introduced into our state from tropical regions and are now firmly established here. Two of them - the Cuban tree frog and the cane, or giant, toad - are major pests that consume our smaller native frogs and can even poison our pets with their toxic skin secretions.

Pool Deck Pergola Renovation
On Monday, January 9, 2017 we will begin to remove and replace the pergolas located around the pool deck and over the hot tub. To ensure the safety of the residents, we will be closing the pool and hot tub while demo work is being conducted. Once the demo work is completed, we will make every effort to make the pool and hot tub available for use subject to resident safety and the new installation work at these locations.
Residents that would like to remove some of the Jasmine from the pergolas prior to January 9th are welcome to do so. The following website provides helpful information on how to plant Jasmine after you cut it.
Thank you for your patience while this work is being performed.

POT LUCK 2016 - A GREAT AND GENEROUS GROUP
The Victoria Gardens Pot Luck community saw a tremendous growth in attendance last year. 2016 was topped off by a grand Thanksgiving dinner for over 130 hungry and thankful residents.
Our group was also generous in donations of canned goods and cash collected during each month's events. These donations were sent to various groups during the year including The Salvation Army, Our Father's Closet, DeLand Methodist Church, Second Harvest, St. Ann's Church, St. Peter's Church and two local soup kitchens. You are a good group, "Pot Luckers", and we hope to see you often in 2017! We thank you for your generosity, good will and friendships.
A final year donation of $650 plus canned goods gathered during Thanksgiving were given to St. Peter's Food Pantry in DeLand. Seen in the photo is resident Cindy Roberts along with the Pastor of St. Peters, Father Tom, and Jim Tomse, who heads up the Food Pantry and does a tremendous job feeding the hungry of our community.
