Fitness Center Rules & Regulations

The team at Victoria Gardens is dedicated to keeping you safe while working out in the Fitness Center. While you're getting fit, it is important to keep in mind that safety is first. A great way to protect yourself while working out is to always wear closed-toe rubber-soled shoes such as sneakers for proper workouts. Flip flops or sandals are never a good idea when working out. Below are a few rules and regulations to remember when working out:

  • When using gym equipment always sanitize the equipment after each use. This will control germs and other bacteria from spreading.
  •  Sports drinks and plastic water bottles are permitted provided they are sealed or capped.
  • Casual workout attire must be worn at all times in the Fitness Center. Upper body garments are required at all times.

To view all Fitness Center Rules, click here .

Sanitizing Equipment

We want you to stay healthy and the best way to do this while utilizing the Fitness Center is to sanitize and wipe down all machines and equipment before and after each use.

This will not only keep the equipment clean, but it will also stop the spreading of germs and other bacteria that could make you sick.
Fitness Class Updates

F itness classes are occasionally relocated, changed or cancelled.
To keep you informed, we will update any fitness class changes here.

  • Mary O'Shaunessy will be instructing Pilates on Monday, March 9th.

Sew & Sews

Attention Victoria Gardens Residents!

Do you like to quilt/sew/knit/crochet? Then come & join the Sew & Sews any Wednesday morning (9am-12pm) in the craft room at the clubhouse. We also go out for lunch on the 1st Wednesday of each month. Pictured are some members of the group enjoying a weekend quilting retreat in the multi-purpose room.
Library Volunteer Committee

Our library volunteers recently completed the yearly clean up and reorganization of the library. We have moved some things around, and hope this won't make it too difficult to find the type of books you're looking for. We are working on getting some new signs made, so please be patient with us.

One of our residents recently donated 8 leather bound editions of Agatha Christie mysteries. They are currently featured on the chess table. You will notice that they are in pristine condition, and we hope we all can enjoy, while taking care to protect them.

Further, in an effort to keep the library as a quiet enjoyment environment, the management team is working to find alternate locations for non-library related activities. This will help keep our library as intended. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

BOOK DRIVE FOR ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CHILDREN

SPONSORED BY THE DAUGHTERS OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION

The DAR promotes the love of reading and the joy of owning books.  But many parents of children in DeLand don't have funds to buy books for their children, and we're asking that our Victoria Gardens residents help.  There are nine schools in DeLand with Kindergarten through Fifth Grade, and we hope to acquire books for these K-5 children to take home and have good reading material for the summer months and onward.

So between now and May 1, bring new or gently-used books to the Craft Room where there will be a box labeled "Book Drive for K-5 Children".

You will also see a notice about this Book Drive in the Victoria Park Newsletter.  If you have any questions, contact Ruth Ann Fay, a VG resident, at 386-738-3563 or  RFAY4@cfl.rr.com

MUSIC AT THE GARDENS

Do you enjoy singing, being part of a musical production or playing an instrument in a small group? Maybe you’d like to try and have some fun! There are several opportunities that are available right now.

VeeGees

Singers are always welcome for small groups or the larger choral group which perform for special events and a holiday concert. Production help is needed in the areas of lighting (particularly spotlight), stage manager and crew. Piano accompanists are always welcome.

Instrumental Group

A new instrumental group is being formed. Brush the dust off your instrument! There is a need for a drummer, a string bass player and trumpet player.

If any of these opportunities spark an interest and you would like more information, please contact Deane Booth, Director of Music for the VeeGees at boothmusic@cfl.rr.com.
LEARN TO PLAY PICKLEBALL!

Pickleball instruction for beginners and those who would like to review rules and play strategies is available.

Paddles and balls are available at the courts, or use your own paddle. Comfortable court shoes that will not leave marks on the court are very important and you may want to wear a hat, visor and/or sunscreen.

Why pickleball? A sport for all ages. Easy to learn. Great recreational sport. Fun way to exercise. Get in shape. Meet great people.

For further information or questions or to arrange an instruction time, contact Ed Pritchett at 386-626-3378 or  epritchett@cfl.rr.com.

Card Games & Groups

COME PLAY DUPLICATE
 BRIDGE!

Wednesday | 1 p.m.

Seeking new and experienced players to join us. For those new to duplicate, the same hands are played at each table and scoring is based on relative performance. In this way, every hand, whether strong or weak, is played in competition with others playing identical cards, and the element of skill is heightened while that of chance is reduced . In other words, if you get a good or bad hand, so do the other players. It is fun to compare how others played the same hand.

Stop by (usually in the multi-purpose room) any Wednesday between 1 and 4 p.m. to meet the players and sign up to be called when players are needed. You are invited to join us!
Hand, Knee & Foot Card Games

Come and join us in the Card Room for a fun and interesting card game, which is very similar to Canasta.

On Mondays at 1:30 pm we welcome all levels of players. If you would like to learn how to play, we will teach you!

Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays at 1 pm we welcome all experienced players who are able to Open, Close, Score and Strategize. Please arrive 15 minutes early so that teams can be chosen using “marble” selection.

We look forward to seeing you there!
