V C C S Honors...
Well Done, Mock Trial Team!
Congratulations to the VCCS Mock Trial Team for the long hours and hard work they poured into preparing for the NCAJ Regional Competition. Our team fought hard and represented us well last Saturday.

In her first year on the team, ninth grader Tianna Boykins received Best Witness award for second round. We give God all the glory for the work He is doing through our students.

The other team members are Xyience Davis, Karsen Forte, Jayla Martin and Lyla Young (ninth grade), Aria Burrows
(10th grade); Bryce Hall, Patricia Hamilton and Lauren Young (11th grade).

Special thanks to Mrs. Martin and Pastor Chisholm for their leadership throughout the year.

During a weekly chapel service, Leah Metcalf came to speak to the young ladies of VCCS. Ms. Metcalf is a 38-year-old former pro basketball player who owns a business called Carpe U.

She spoke on how she accomplished her dreams and gave us nuggets to achieve ours. In those nuggets, Ms. Metcalf mentioned one word that could sum it all up, determination. When faced with challenges, she said, “If I was not determined, if I didn’t have a goal and the drive to accomplish that goal, I wouldn’t be here standing before you today.”

What stood out to me the most was her not giving up on herself after being cut from the WNBA. This 2006 graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill picked herself up and began to play overseas, winning championships while doing what she loves. That keyword, determination, is how I plan to accomplish my goals. While I already knew that determination was a crucial component to success, a simple reminder from the right person can go a long way toward encouraging you to pursue your dreams. Ms. Metcalf instilled something different into each of our lives. It is now up to us to live it out.

Her company specializes in signature Tees and all-natural antiperspirants that may be purchased online at www.carpeu.com.

Zaria Gool is a Journalism Team Sophomore.

KINGS GAME AT SPECTRUM ARENA
See the Varsity Kings and the Charlotte Hornets!

The Varsity Boys will get a taste of what it's like to compete on an official NBA court. On Saturday, February 12, they'll take on Comenius School at the Spectrum Arena, the home of the Charlotte Hornets. This is a fundraising event in which $5 will be donated to VCCS for every ticket sold. Tickets start at $26.81 and include admission to that night's Hornets vs. the Grizzlies' game.

The team that sells the most tickets will win a "Pre-game Fan Experience" in which they'll spend time with the Hornets. Click on the link below to purchase your tickets now!
Kings Family,
