Congratulations to our Middle School SLI Rocket Team and their coaches for participating in NASA's Student Launch Initiative in Huntsville, AL on Saturday. They were the only Middle School Team from our state at the launch at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center.
We give God all the glory for the advanced STEM training our team received from NASA engineers and for the exposure to the dynamics of the highly-technical aerospace industry. Special thanks to Miss Kimberly Williams and Mr. Jonathan Chisholm, our Rocket Team advisers.
"We're looking forward to our team continuing to grow in engineering and technology," said Miss Williams. "This project is not over yet," she said. " The launch was just part of it. Now we have to do post-launch procedures which have to be turned in by the end of May."
While rocketry is a lot of work, she believes it provides the advanced STEM grooming students need."If they want to work for NASA or the aerospace industry, this is preparing them early on to understand the process." After talking with NASA engineers at length, the students could more easily understand the collaboration, endurance, mental strength and willingness to accept constructive criticism that comes with rocketry, she said.
Our students learned how important communication is. They learned they have to be consistent, open and prayerful." The students got to talk with lots of people and were featured in several photo sessions with NASA.
