U.S. Surgeon General Cautions About the Role of Social Media in Youth Mental Health Crisis

On May 23rd, The United States surgeon general, Dr. Vivek Murthy, issued a new advisory warning of the mental health effects of social media on young people. While social media can have benefits such as positive community connections and access to information, there are also significant concerns about its impact on mental health. The report emphasizes the need for more research to fully understand the risks and benefits of social media for youth.

Heather believes each person’s deepest desire is to be seen and known. Sometimes therapy is the first safe space to try this out. In therapy, Heather hopes to meet individuals, couples, and families where they are, and to understand them holistically. She utilizes a humanistic approach to create a non-judgmental space to meet therapeutic goals. Heather hopes to see clients come to know themselves better, to help unpack their stories, and to encourage them to live within their values.
