Two Valent sales representatives on the East coast, Boland and Baltimore Trane, partnered together to win a job in the suburbs of Washington, D.C. The project is a redevelopment of nearly 13 acres from industrial use into a new neighborhood development with ground floor retail and a mix of residential buildings from townhouses to multi-family buildings.

Seven Valent VX units will provide 100% fresh outdoor air for residential and mixed-use buildings on the site. Pat Bain at Boland worked closely with the project engineer to identify Valent as basis-of-design. Valent offers several air flow monitoring options, including monitoring at the supply fan. Many competitors only offer more costly damper air flow monitoring or no monitoring options at all. Get to know the options Valent has available so you can guide your customers to the best selection.

Valent offers pressure-based air flow measurement at both the supply fan and exhaust fan. This type of air flow measurement is up to 95% accurate, sufficient for most applications. This option is installed and tested at the factory, ensuring the sensor is working properly when it arrives on site. Fan air flow measurement is one of Valent’s SPECtacular 7 features because it is the most cost-effective option and one that drives many competitors to include the more expensive damper air flow monitoring.

For measurement at the damper, Valent offers a device that uses thermal dispersion. Thermal dispersion measurement is typically more accurate than pressure-based measurement, especially at lower velocities. These damper devices typically also have additional start-up requirements and require field calibration.

For highly critical applications, Ebtron makes a thermal dispersion measurement device that can be procured and installed separately in the field. This device uses more sample points to ensure higher accuracy. However, for most applications, Valent’s factory-mounted solutions meet the requirements and save you time and money.
