Housing Crisis and Rent

A continuing shortage of affordable housing and the resulting rise in rents have caused more and more families to face a real risk of eviction. Housing and the threat of homelessness continue to be the biggest challenges facing our “neighbors in need.”

Partnering with agencies like Community Cooperative and Catholic Charities, The Bridge Fund (TBF) has helped more than 100 families avoid homelessness, just in the last 3 months.

While family housing issues continue to lead TBF requests, our help doesn’t stop there. Below you can read about other ways we are addressing critical needs in our communities, thanks to generous donors like you!

Focus on Children

When families struggle economically, children feel the full impact. A hard-working mom may get reduced hours waitressing in the summer and early fall. A work site injury may require time away from dad‘s construction job. Lack of transportation may limit where parents can reasonably seek employment. In any of these or other circumstances, grocery budgets get cut, and healthy foods may be eliminated entirely.

Hungry and undernourished students suffer growth, learning and behavioral consequences. TBF sponsors projects to provide children with the support they need, including:

Food Pantries in schools. School social workers currently maintain food pantries in 15 schools. Families who are short on food supplies can be given provisions for an emergency dinner or two.

Clothes Closets in schools. To ease the burden of back-to-school expenses, TBF has funded clothes closets, containing dress code-compliant tops and bottoms, light jackets and underwear, in 38 Lee County schools since August.

Weekend food for students. Through “Blessings in a Backpack,” TBF provides food on the weekends for school-aged children who might otherwise go hungry, supporting 285 students and their siblings in Bonita Springs and Estero.

Summer food programs. Infants and children participating in the Café of Life summer programs are provided with healthy, filling snacks Monday through Friday

Words of Appreciation

Tina was working full-time at a local elementary school clinic while completing her certified nursing assistant (CNA) training. Just as she was ready to start her new job, she suffered a medical setback. Thanks to your generous donations, we were able to cover her rent during this challenging time.  She sends her thanks to you:

"I'm a single mom in school for CNA and I fell behind on rent due to having surgery. I have been trying to catch up ever since. Your help has been such a huge blessing. Thank you once again, and God bless you all. 😊❤"

Partner Profile:

Our unique structure of partnering with local agencies and schools allows TBF to reach more people in need. Starting in 2018, TBF began a relationship with Community Cooperative (CCI), expanding our reach in addressing hunger and homelessness. CCI provides essential food, as well as social and education services, helping individuals and families create lasting, positive change.

This summer, your generosity helped to fund 200 Hungry Hungry Kiddo Kits. These kits deliver targeted nutritional support to food-insecure children and include a variety of healthy, child-friendly snacks.

With your support, parents can tuck their children in at night knowing they have had healthy food needed to grow and thrive, even when school breakfasts and lunches aren’t available.

“Something as simple as a healthy snack can make a world of difference for a child who is feeling hungry. With The Bridge Fund’s partnership, families can worry less about having enough food to eat and feel more secure about their children's health and well-being.”  - Stefanie Ink Edwards, CEO

Thank You to Our Amazing Supporters!

Thank you for being an essential part of this journey. Together, we are making a difference!
