Richard Ray: Director of Missions -

Weekly Update

This past week has been busy preparing for the Texas Baptist Men arrival as they construct the "Boyd Chapel" at the Tri-Rivers Retreat Center. The Builders from Texas Baptist Men will start construction on Monday, January 14and will be here for two weeks. We are seeking churches, groups or individuals who can volunteer to feed the Texas Baptist Men a hot noon meal. We are expecting approximately 40 workers. We are also seeking volunteer Roofers who can put a Metal Roof on the Chapel. If you would like to serve a meal to the Texas Baptist Men or assist in putting on the Roof, please contact your Area Office or sign up online. We will keep an updated meal list of volunteers on the website: tririversretreatcenter.com

We also activated the new ministry serving those whose lives are impacted by Domestic Violence. I will be sending information of this ministry to the Leadership of our Churches along with the new Domestic Violence Victim Hotline Number. If you would like to serve as a volunteer-victims advocate in your Area please contact your Area Office.

This past Sunday, I was honored to preach at FBC Hico. I always enjoy preaching God's Word to this sweet congregation that loves to proclaim the love of Christ to others. I appreciate pastor Dace Clifton for this opportunity.

This week, I will be attending several gatherings to include: The Lampasas Baptist Association Leadership Meeting hosted by Northside Baptist Church, a Texas Baptist Bivocational/Small Church Associational Meeting, while also spending time with several of our Tri-Rivers Area Pastors discussion ministry opportunities within the Tri-Rivers Baptist Area. On Saturday, I will be attending the retirement celebration of pastor Dave and Vicki Keith who have faithfully served Carlton Baptist Church for 35 years. Saturday evening, I will be at Valley Grove Baptist Church in Stephenville as they host the Heavenly Highway singing. This Sunday, I will be worshipping and delivering God's Word at FBC Gatesville. This week I will also be working at the Tri-Rivers Retreat Center each evening and during the day when time allows as we prep the Chapel for Construction.

Until next week, please share your story of Salvation to someone this week.

Until next week, "For every house is builded by some man; but He that built all things is God." - Hebrews 3:4

But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect. (1 Peter 3:15)

Bro. Dave Keith and his wife Vicki will be retiring from the Pastoral position at Carlton Baptist Church. His final sermon will be on January 13. They invite everyone to join them on this day to celebrate and worship with them.

January 8, 1984 was the second Sunday of the year and I preached my first sermon as Pastor of Carlton Baptist Church.  Vicki and I, with sons, Jim, who was three years old, and Matt, who had been born in July of 1983, came to live in the parsonage. Since that Sunday 35  years ago I have probably preached somewhere in the neighborhood of 2000 sermons and Bible studies.
January 13, 2019 will be our 35th anniversary and last Sunday as Pastor of Carlton Baptist Church. As we retire from the pastorate, we are not leaving anyone behind. Our friends at Carlton Baptist have become family, and although the relationship will shift, our hearts will continue there. We leave with many wonderful memories of lives intersecting with ours. We leave the final resting place of our son Matt and his wife Audrey in the Carlton Cemetery. We leave with the full confidence that God has another Pastor prepared to come and be loved as we have been.
Our retirement home is in Stephenville, so we will certainly remain in the circle of love in which the Lord has placed us. I intend, God willing, to continue to preach in a role of substituting when a Pastor must be out of the pulpit in places where I am invited. Thanks be to God and all of our family and friends for the love and support over the years by allowing  us to serve at Carlton Baptist Church.
On Saturday January 12th there will be a reception at the Carlton Baptist Church Fellowship Hall from
2-4pm for those whose church commitments preclude visiting on a Sunday.
