Town Administrator's E-Brief

From Town Administrator, Eric DeMoura           Town of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina

February 2017
Dear Mount Pleasant residents and business owners,

This past month we celebrated the many successes and notable accomplishments we achieved together in 2016. Mayor Page delivered the 2016 State of the Town Address at the February Council meeting, but if you were unable to attend, you can view it from the link below. We are proud of the success we enjoyed in 2016, but we still have work to do.

Starting this month, we shift our focus to preparing the Town's Annual Budget. During the budget prep we consider the challenges and opportunities that exist in our community and we cultivate a funding plan to address critical needs and provide services for our citizens. I encourage you to participate in the creation of the Annual Budget by attending any and all of the public meetings identified in the sections below.

There are several upcoming meetings and events scheduled for the next month, so I invite you to sign up to our Notify Me module and stay updated on the latest Town news, projects, and events. For more information about all that is happening in the Town of Mount Pleasant, please visit us online, like us on Facebook, or follow us on Twitter.

Best Regards,

Commercial Housekeeping Tips
Attention Business Owners- Did you know that businesses play an important role in maintaining our local water quality?  Clean water is important to all of us. Simple steps in the workplace can make a big difference in keeping our water clean for today and future generations of Lowcountry residents. No matter what your business, there are simple housekeeping tips that every property owner or business can undertake. Studies show that clean communities have better local economies. Our stormwater staff and education partners can help you make water quality friendly decisions at your business! Here are some tips you can follow to help protect our local water quality:

1. Inspect your dumpster area - make sure lids are closed and loose debris is picked up and disposed of daily.

2. Talk with your landscaper about your property maintenance; are they keeping grass clippings and leaves out of the street? Is your curb clean? Do you have a pond or drainage system that needs some special or extra care?

3. Consider how you clean your shop or store - how you dispose of waste materials or keep them from going down the drain. Do you have a business such as a restaurant or automotive facility that may have grease or oil waste that needs to be property managed?

4. If you are thinking of building a new business or renovating an existing one, keep in mind that there are special construction requirements to help protect our local environment and Low Impact Development  techniques that may be applicable to your site.

5. For restaurant owners- learn more, train your staff and become certified as a "Clean Restaurant". Click HERE to learn more about the Clean Restaurant Program.
