Zenith Aircraft Open Hangar Days and Fly-In

If there was ever a crowd during the event, it was around the Viking 180 Zenith SD. The aircraft sporting a new baggage pod, 5 bladed propeller and Alaskan Bush Wheels.

Several talks were held and participation was great. This was one of the busiest gatherings in recent memory. The banquet and food was great and the weather was just perfect.

The flight to Missouri was special because it was Alissa's first long cross country flight Close to 130 mph over the ground in the SD, approaching the Zenith plant before sunset.

We had a successful trip from Edgewater, Florida to Mexico, Missouri. We arrived around 7p.m.Thursday afternoon and had a wonderful dinner with the early arrivals and friends. We were able to give a flight demo and also over 30 demo flights, take a look at the recent videos. 

Jim Butlers' Viking powered Zenith 750 STOL has around 300 hours with his Viking Engine and going strong!

Marvin Miller and his Viking powered Zenith 650. He has 290 hours on his Viking Engine.

Steve Aupperle Ready to Fly!

Steve Aupperle in his Zenith CH750 is preparing for his first flight. He just completed after 7 years. Right now just taxi hours on it. He will do transition training in 2 weeks at Buzz Flight Academy and then start flying the 40 hours of commissioning. A great accomplishment and we look forward to hearing more.

The Viking Technical Corner

It is now recommended to add an alternator warning light and to wire the alternator to an ON / OFF switch, rather than to the ignition switch.

Carefully review the above chart. It is popular to use Lithium Ion batteries but you MUST understand that they do not show the same voltage / capacity as what you are used to.

Here is a sample engine start and shutdown for those making their own. Patrick Hoyt uses this style for his many Viking 130 / CH-650 flights.

The height adjustable Viking Version of the Rotax ring mount is now complete and will be installed on the 701 this weekend. The 90 hp now can fit any Rotax 912 powered aircraft using a ring mount.
