Dear Nolan Catholic Viking Alumni, Grandparents, and Benefactors,
We are pleased to share this month’s Viking Connections, launched last fall to keep you informed about campus happenings and connected to our Viking community. We hope that reading this brings you closer to Nolan Catholic and that you enjoy the stories and updates.
As we begin the fourth quarter, our students are active and thriving. Spring sports are in full swing, our recent production of Matilda played to a packed house, and the Class of 2026 is finalizing college decisions. We look forward to the 6th Annual Viking Club Classic on Monday, April 6, and continue to welcome Future Vikings of all ages to campus each week as they envision Nolan Catholic as their future home.
Above all, we remain committed to guiding our students in the Faith. This Lenten season, our Campus Ministry team has created a meaningful prayer schedule to provide students, faculty, and staff with additional opportunities during the school day to prepare for Easter and to draw them closer to Christ. We hope and pray that your families have a blessed Holy Week and Easter Triduum.
Today, and every day, we are grateful that you are part of the Viking Community.
Esto Dux!
Clint Weber, President
Susan LoCoco, Principal

Where Faith Meets Innovation: Inside Nolan Catholic’s CEDE Course
This year, Nolan Catholic has been proud to partner with The Catholic University of America’s Busch School of Business to bring one of their undergraduate business courses directly to our campus for dual enrollment credit. The Catholic Entrepreneurship and Design Experience (CEDE) course is one of the most unique courses students will encounter in high school. Developed in collaboration with Catholic University faculty, it brings together personal vocation discernment, Catholic Social Teaching, and entrepreneurship into a single, semester-long experience.
Rather than relying on traditional lectures and tests, students engage in real conversations, hands-on design projects, and honest self-reflection. They explore not just what they want to do after graduation, but who they are and what they were made to contribute to the world. This course welcomes future engineers and future artists, future founders and future parents - truly anyone who desires to live with greater intention and purpose.
At the heart of the course is the Odyssey Project, a personal two-year life design plan that each student builds piece by piece throughout the semester. Along the way, students uncover their core values, discover the unique motivational patterns that energize them, and take an honest look at how they are allocating their time to create their legacy. The course is rooted in the fundamental belief that each student was uniquely designed by God to add value to the world in a way that is both unique and unrepeatable.
By the end of the semester, students won’t just have a document; they will have a clearer sense of direction, a deeper confidence in who they are, and practical tools for making decisions that align with their faith and their calling.

Nolan Catholic Earns GOLD Recognition on AP School Honor Roll
Nolan Catholic High School has once again been named a GOLD member of the AP School Honor Roll, a distinction awarded to schools that demonstrate a strong commitment to college readiness and academic excellence.
Nolan Catholic’s results highlight the strength of our academic program:
- 71% of seniors took at least one AP Exam during high school
- 61% of seniors earned a score of 3 or higher on at least one AP Exam
- 23% of seniors took five or more AP Exams
Notably, the final two benchmarks meet PLATINUM-level standards, the highest recognition awarded by the College Board.
For Future Viking families, this honor reflects our commitment to preparing students with the skills, confidence, and academic foundation needed to succeed in college and beyond.

An Afternoon of Fellowship: Father & Son Grill Out
Our first Father & Son Grill Out and Cornhole Tournament was a memorable weekend filled with fellowship, competition, and shared moments that reflect the heart of the Nolan Catholic community.
Families gathered for an afternoon of friendly games, great food, and time well spent together. A special thank you to Fr. Metzler, who served as grill master and provided not only a great meal, but also a meaningful talk on courage. His words added depth to the event, reminding all in attendance of the importance of faith and virtue in everyday life.

Continuing the Legacy: The Big Bend Ecology Trip
Each year, Nolan Catholic High School seniors step beyond the classroom and into one of the most breathtaking landscapes in Texas for a weeklong Ecology Trip to Big Bend—a tradition rooted in the vision of the late Dr. Joe Kuban.
Dr. Kuban, a Nolan Catholic alumnus himself, began teaching in 1974 and dedicated his life to inspiring students through science, particularly in the field of ecology. What started as an innovative approach to teaching ecology has become one of the most meaningful and formative experiences of senior year.
The trip reflects Dr. Kuban’s belief that education should engage the whole person. For alumni, the Big Bend Ecology Trip remains a defining memory—a time of challenge, growth, and discovery. More than just a senior trip, it is a living tradition, one that continues to form generations of Vikings.

From Viking to Firefighter: Eric Franco ’21
Nolan Catholic alumnus Eric Franco ’21 is making an impact through a life of service, recently earning his badge with Odessa Fire Rescue.
In a recent feature by The University of Texas Permian Basin, Franco shares how his college experience—both in the classroom and on the football field—helped shape his resilience, discipline, and sense of purpose. Inspired at a young age by firefighters who saved his brother’s life, Franco pursued that calling and turned it into a career dedicated to serving others.
Through challenges, including a significant injury during college, Franco credits his time at UTPB for pushing him to grow and ultimately preparing him for his future. His journey is a powerful example of perseverance, faith, and a commitment to something greater than oneself.
