Viking Cruise Committee Update

The Viking Cruise committee is made up of representatives from: the city of Algoma, area businesses and organizations, the Algoma Area Chamber of Commerce, and the Kewaunee County Economic Development Corporation (KCEDC). The committee has been meeting to discuss the logistics and expectations of the cruise ship visits to Algoma scheduled to begin in June 2023.

While there is still much information the committee is looking to get from the cruise ship company and its associates, we can tell you we are excited to welcome visitors by land and sea to our area and we hope you are too. If you plan to have a special event or sale on a cruise ship visit day, make sure the Chamber has this information well ahead of time so it can be included on any promotional materials created for cruise passengers and day-trippers alike.

The committee has crafted this letter to update businesses and residents with what is known so far. More information will be forthcoming as it becomes available.

Congratulations to Jeremy Heim, co-owner of Heim's Hillcrest Dairy LLC. on being elected as an operator director of the Wisconsin Custom Operators board.
Congratulations to Bank of Luxemburg on being one of 24 businesses in Wisconsin to receive a state grant from the Wisconsin Fast Forward grant program offered annually by the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development. The bank was awarded $26,200 that will reimburse the costs of customized occupational training for unemployed, underemployed, and incumbent workers.
Congratulations to Friends of Crescent Beach as recipients of a Greater Green Bay Community Foundation grant to help expand restoration and water quality improvement efforts of the beach on the Lake Michigan shore in Algoma and support educational opportunities to increase awareness of how the community can protect the beach and its watershed.

Make Your Beacon Awards Dinner Reservation

Reservations are now being accepted for the 2023 Beacon Awards Banquet being held Monday, April 17, 2023 at Homestead Kitchen & Tap. The cost for the buffet dinner is $30 per person, Award winners will be announced April 3, 2023.

To submit a nominee, complete the nomination form by March 31, 2023.

New Member Benefit: Volunteer Opportunity Directory!

The Algoma Area Chamber of Commerce is gearing up for National Volunteer Month in April, so in an effort to help our members connect with potential volunteers we have created a Volunteer Opportunity directory on our website.

Members can submit volunteer needs, either ongoing or date/event specific, and we will list them in the directory and share them on our social media outlets.

We would also like to help you spotlight your volunteers during the month of April.
