Manufacturing Day Goes Virtual: More Than 1,500 Local Students And 20 Schools Participate Annually

Among all that has changed in a COVID-19 world, there’s one thing that hasn’t: A desire to excite local middle and high school students about careers in manufacturing.
To that end, Manufacturing Day – an annual event connecting students with Grand Traverse manufacturers – is on this year, but as a virtual event. Continue Reading
Dockside Spring Fling for Grass River Natural Area moves to Fall
Tuesday, September 22, 2020
5:00 – 9:00 pm
Each year the Dockside Restaurant on Torch Lake holds a fundraiser for the Grass River Natural Area. This year will be no exception though the event moved from its usual springtime slot to an early fall date. New owners Ruben Meneses and Brandon Nichols assured GRNA that the popular season opening fundraiser would continue, but COVID-19 delayed the event until the end of summer when they felt confident that new operational procedures were in place.  Fifty percent of all sales from 5 – 9 pm on the 22nd will be donated to Grass River Natural Area, so GRNA can continue to meet their mission "to conserve and protect its watershed and provide opportunities that increase knowledge, appreciation, and community-wide stewardship of the natural environment".  The Dockside is located on the Chain of Lakes watershed served by the Grass River, so Meneses and Nichols value the protection that GRNA provides just north of their popular waterside establishment.  Masks will need to be worn, social distancing will be in place, and the popular deck will be open if weather permits. The Dockside is located at 6340 Old Torch Lake Dr, Bellaire MI 49615.

For additional information contact betsy@grassriver.org or call 231.838.0269.

Veteran Supporters,
Due to the overwhelming positive response to:
The Dave Abbott Memorial Northwestern Michigan Veterans Golf Outing campaign, we are postponing the outing from:

September 13, 2020 to October 4, 2020

This is due to the fact that A-GA-MING cannot accommodate the number of registrants we have for the September date. The shotgun start time will move to 10:00 a.m. with registration from 9:00 to 9:45 a.m.
We greatly appreciate the fantastic support for our veterans through this event and we deeply apologize for the inconvenience. We understand that some people may not be able to switch to the new date and we will provide refunds to those who can’t. Please contact either Jerry Hubbell or Rich Newer to facilitate processing of your refund or if you have additional questions.
Thanks again for your support and we hope you will join us on October 4, 2020.

Add Beauty to the Community and Support Your Garden Club – Buy a Brick!

While 2020 has had its challenges, one thing that continues to add beauty and respite to visitors and locals alike are the 10 community gardens maintained by the members of the Elk Rapids Garden Club.  Support for these gardens comes from the Club’s fundraising efforts and this year the Club’s major fundraiser, the Garden Walk was cancelled.
Interested in supporting the Garden Club’s great work? You can still do so by purchasing a brick on the Club’s Patron’s Path located at the Pedestrian Bridge Garden. A great way to honor someone special and the purchase is tax deductible. Go to www.elkrapidsgardenclub.com/support/#patronspath for further information and to complete your application.
