:: WHY A SPECIAL EDITION ::

INTRODUCTION

Whether or not you're interested in the total solar eclipse on April 8th, the event is going to impact everyone in our Village in multiple ways. This special edition of the Village Digest contains important information to help everyone prepare in advance for a weekend that is expected to bring 500,000 additional visitors to Garland County, not to mention the number expected in Saline County.

The sections in this special edition will include:

  • Information on what to expect in the time period around the total solar eclipse (roughly April 5-8, 2024).
  • What to do to minimize the impact on your own lives - how to prepare in advance.
  • Schedule of events for the weekend.
  • List of "Do's and Don'ts" to help you navigate through everything.
  • Where to find special solar glasses.
  • Where to purchase special souvenir HSV "solar eclipse T-shirts".

:: WHAT TO EXPECT ::

OUR FIRST RESPONDERS HAVE BEEN PREPARING....

During the solar eclipse event in Wyoming several years ago, they were unprepared and consequently....

  • Gas stations ran out of gas
  • Grocery stores and restaurants ran out of food
  • Liquor stores ran out of beverages
  • First responders were unprepared
  • Highways were clogged with unanticipated traffic

Including friends and family of residents plus guests in the short term rentals, our first responders estimate there will be approximately 10,000 visitors in Hot Springs Village between April 5 and April 8.

  • First and foremost, know that the HSV police, fire, and ambulance have been preparing for the eclipse event for more than a year.
  • Also know that our gates will remain secure and the Village will remain closed to everyone except friends and family of residents as well as short term rental guests.
  • The West and East Gates will be especially busy as will the highways leading to them.
  • As a main route to various viewing areas as well as to Hot Springs, where every hotel has been sold out for almost a year, Hwy 7 is expected to see considerable traffic over that entire weekend.
  • Know that restaurants inside and outside the Village will be busy all weekend.

:: HOW DO YOU PREPARE? ::

PLAN AHEAD!

Whether you care about the eclipse event or not, it's still going to impact your life for a number of days. Make the impact minimal by doing the following:

  • Early in the week of April 1, purchase enough food and beverages to get you past April 8th.
  • Make sure any needed prescription drug orders have been filled early in the week and/or make sure you have enough medications on hand to last past April 8th.
  • Fill up your gas tank the week before.

:: MAKE THE WEEKEND MEMORABLE ::
