The E-News sent this afternoon incorrectly indicated that Gillson Beach will open for swimming this weekend. The Park District confirmed that they hope to open Gillson Beach for swimming next week after resuming testing the water for E-Coli, per the Illinois Department of Public Health. Phase 3 Begins Today: Here's What to Expect


Today we begin Phase 3 of the Governor's five-phase reopening plan . The Village is working with the Wilmette business community to ensure safe shopping and dining experiences. Retail businesses are open and we encourage you to shop local and call/visit websites of your favorite local shops for more information on hours and guidelines. We are also working closely with the local restaurant community to expand outdoor dining -  visit our website  for more information about outdoor dining in Wilmette. We are evaluating options for reopening Village facilities to ensure the safety of employees and the public. More information will be provided via social media and in E-News in the coming week. 

As more businesses reopen, the Illinois Department of Commerce & Economic Opportunity (DCEO) has provided Phase 3 business guidelines for specific industries.  For information  on Phase 3 business opening guidelines, visit our website. 


Minimum Guidelines for All Industries
  • All employees who can work from home should continue to do so.
  • Employees should wear face coverings over their nose and mouth when within six feet of others (cloth masks preferred). 
  • Social distance of at least six feet should be maintained between non-household individuals unless participating in activities permitted under Phase 3 guidelines (e.g. haircuts).
Common Guidelines for Various Categories of Businesses
  • Facilities should be configured in a way that allows for adequate social distancing.
  • Facilities should operate at no more than 50% capacity.
  • Reservations only (no walk-ins) for fitness centers, bars/restaurants, salons, barbershops, etc.
Dining-Specific Guidelines
  • No parties larger than six people.
  • Restaurants must ensure adequate distance between dine-in areas and pickup areas.
  • Restaurants must provide disposable menus or menus that can be sanitized between use.
Outdoor Dining in Wilmette
  • At the request of the downtown restaurants, the Village will not be closing downtown streets for outdoor dining. The purpose of keeping streets open is to maintain access to each restaurant's curbside pickup. Visit our website for more information.

Drive-by Birthday Celebrations Ending June 15


Join us in thanking the Wilmette Police, Fire and Public Works departments for all the joy they've brought our community by bringing drive-by celebrations to so many children during the Stay at Home Order! These birthday drive-bys will end on June 15 as staff return to more regular work and training regimens.
Wilmette Park District: Gillson Beach

Gillson Beach is open for recreation, as long as guests adhere to safety guidelines, including:

  • Attendees are expected to practice social distancing and safety measures at all times.
  • Limit same-household congregations to groups of 10 or fewer.
  • There will be a single-use restroom open to the public.
  • No food is allowed on the beach.

Access to the beach and parking lot will be limited to beach season pass and season parking decal holders only.  Get  Beach Season Passes here , and   Beach Parking Permits here . Visit the  Park District website for more information on beach guidelines. 
Metra 'Touch Less, Pay Less' Pass Available June 1

Beginning June 1, Metra is launching a $10 All-Day Pass that  will be good for unlimited rides on any and all Metra lines all day until 3 a.m. the next morning. For anyone travelling downtown from Metra's Zone C or farther, the pass costs less than two one-way fares. Customers are encouraged to purchase the pass through the Ventra app.  Unused All-Day Passes purchased in the Ventra app will expire seven days after purchase. Illinois Driver Facilities Reopening with Limited Services June 1


Beginning June 1, Driver Services facilities will reopen with expanded hours and limited service. Visit cyberdriveillinois.com for more information.
  • From June 1 through July 31, facilities will focus on serving ONLY new drivers, customers with expired driver's licenses/ID cards and vehicle transactions.
  • All expiration dates for driver's licenses, ID cards and vehicle registrations have been extended at least 90 days after the Governor's June 1 disaster proclamation executive order ends.
  • The federal REAL ID enforcement deadline has been extended from Oct. 1, 2020 to Oct. 1, 2021. Current Illinois drivers' licenses and ID cards will continue to be accepted at airports until the new deadline. Visit realid.ilsos.gov for more information on how to apply for your REAL ID.
Neighborhood Storage Project Construction Update

Community Park Improvements
Due to recent rains, the Contractor is scheduled to work Saturday, May 30 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Special approval has been granted for the Contractor to begin work one hour earlier than the Saturday hours published in the Village Code. Working Saturday will allow the Contractor the time required to prepare for installation of the first storm detention vault pieces scheduled for next week. We thank you for your understanding in this matter.

Landscape restoration
Phase 1A Highlights - Storm Sewer Improvements (Read the full construction update here)
  • This week, crews continued landscape restoration, completed brick driveway restoration and installed special soil mixture in rain gardens on Lavergne, Washington and Lamon avenues. Crews also continued installing storm sewer on Romona Road. 
  • Next week, crews will install a second layer of pavement and finish landscape restoration on Lavergne, Washington and Lamon avenues, and begin installing storm sewer on Blackhawk Road. Check out this week's update for traffic impacts.

Community Playfield Improvements
  • This week, crews continued with topsoil stripping and stockpiling operations and began excavating the detention vault. Next week, crews will continue excavating the detention vault and place and compact granular base for the vault sections. The bike path will be closed June 1 and construction fencing will be shifted north for storm sewer work along the north property line of Community Park and Highcrest School. Residents can expect heavy construction traffic entering and leaving the intersection of the Highcrest School parking lot and Hunter Road.
Storm Sewer Improvements
  • This week, crews installed a catch basin inlet in Wilmette Avenue and began installing new 30-inch storm sewer piping along Wilshire Drive West. Next week, crews will set two storm manhole structures in Meadow Drive North and finish installing the 30-inch storm sewer along Wilshire Drive West and connect it to the existing storm water system in the Wilshire Drive West cul-de-sac.
  • Wilmette Avenue between Locust Road and Glenview Road will be closed through late June 2020. Both West Meadow Drive and Wilshire Drive will remain closed for the next few weeks as storm sewer work continues.

June 9 - Village Board Meeting
The Village Board will meet remotely on Wednesday, June 9 at 7:30 p.m. The meeting will be broadcast live at youtube.com/user/villageofwilmette/live and on Channel 6 and then published on the Village's website.
