Thank You for Covering for Yourself and Others

Thank you, Wilmette, for doing your part to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. Because we are working together to follow the public health guidelines, we have been able to reopen businesses and restaurants and resume the wonderful and special quality of life that we love and value so much.

But we are not out of the woods! COVID-19 cases are on the rise across the country. To keep our Village and State "open" and our economy moving forward, we must continue to do what we've been doing-physical distancing, frequently washing hands and wearing face coverings -so we don't go backward. Health experts agree that wearing a mask (the proper way) is one of the best things we can do to prevent the spread of the virus. And when we wear our masks, it's not just for ourselves - it's for our family, friends and neighbors.

Show off your masks! Take a selfie and post to your social media channels using the hashtag #MaskOnWilmette and the text: "It's not too much to mask." If you're out and about Wilmette, tag the Village business or location you're visiting to also show them some love! Let's work together to encourage and promote mask wearing and keep our Village and state moving forward. #MaskOnWilmette #WilmetteStrong

Green Tip: Reduce Single-Use Items

While the pandemic has reduced waste in some areas (carbon emissions), it has increased it in others, like single-use items (discarded masks and gloves). But, it's possible to stay safe and healthy and be environmentally-conscious. Here are some pro tips on reducing single-use items:
  • Use a cloth face covering: The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends cloth face coverings as effective barriers. They should be washed after each use.
  • Use reusable bags: Some grocery stores allow customers to use reusable bags, provided you bag your own groceries. If a certain store does not, have your groceries stacked back in your cart and place them in reusable bags when you reach your car.
  • Use your own utensils for takeout: Ask the restaurant not to include plastic utensils or napkins and to minimize waste.
  • Use your own mug: Yes, some coffee shops allow reusable mugs, so just ask!
