Village Board Approves Additional Economic Relief for Local Businesses

The Wilmette Village Board approved an additional $169,249 economic relief package to support Wilmette restaurants in response to stricter mitigations imposed by the State of Illinois.

Wilmette Village President Bob Bielinski stated, "Local restaurants have been hit particularly hard by the pandemic, and with new restrictions that eliminate indoor dining as we move into winter months, our restaurant community needs support more than ever. The Village is proud to be able to move quickly to help put money in the hands of these local restaurants and we encourage residents to support them by ordering takeout or delivery or bringing a blanket - and mask - for outdoor dining."

COVID-19 Update: New Recommendations to Work from Home, Limit Gatherings and Travel

The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) issued new recommendations this week to help decrease the COVID-19 test positivity rate, which has averaged 13.9% over the past week. For the next three weeks, the IDPH recommends that Illinois residents work from home if possible, participate only in essential activities and limit gatherings and travel.

We're counting on you! Please follow the above recommendations and practice the 3 W's - wear your mask, watch your distance and wash your hands! Our actions can help reduce the spread of COVID-19 and prevent further business and activity restrictions.

In partnership with the Wilmette Park District, Wilmette Public LibrarySchool District 39 and Avoca School District 37, we urge you to do your part to keep our community safe!

Preventative measures are as important as ever as we plan holiday celebrations. This Thanksgiving, we urge you to remember what matters most - our friends and family and their health and wellbeing. Check out the tips below for celebrating safely!

Rake Leaves to the Curb by 7 a.m. on the First Day of Collection Window

Please remember to rake your loose leaves to the curb by 7 a.m. on the first day of a two-day collection window. Because it takes two full days to complete each zone, your leaves will only be collected on one of the two scheduled days. If leaf collection crews are in your area on the first day of collection, they will not be able to return on the second day. For example, if your two-day collection window spans Friday and Monday, you must rake your leaves out by 7 a.m. Friday morning.
Look Out for Unemployment Insurance Fraud

The Wilmette Police Department warns residents that unemployment insurance fraud has increased during COVID-19. Here's how you can spot and report fraud:
  • You receive a debit card or an unemployment insurance letter and have not filed a claim for benefits.
  • You are notified by your employer that a claim for benefits has been filed when you are still employed.
  • You attempt to file a claim online and one already exits.
  • You receive IRS correspondence regarding unreported unemployment insurance benefits.
  • You receive notice of a State or Federal tax offset.
Need to report fraud? File a complaint with the Illinois Department of Employment Security.
