It’s almost time to say goodbye to 2020 and hello to 2021. As this tumultuous year comes to an end, the Village Board and the entire Village team wishes everyone a safe, happy and healthy new year.

Winter Weather Reminders: Parking, Plowing and Sidewalks
|
Winter is here in full force! As a result of yesterday's snowstorm, the Village's first winter parking ban of the season went into effect last night. Please review the Village's winter weather parking, plowing and sidewalk clearing policies to ensure safe and efficient snow removal. Here are some highlights:
- No street parking after 2"+ of snow for 24 hours after the snowfall stops or snow removal operations are completed (whichever is sooner).
- No parking on one side of streets posted as 27 feet wide or less for 24 hours after snowfall of less than 2", sleet, freezing rain or ice.
- Priorities for plowing/salting include:
- Arterials streets
- Business/commuter sidewalks
- School sidewalk routes
- Side streets

New Year’s Holiday Service Updates: Village Offices Closed and Trash Collection Delays

Please note the following service impacts due to the New Year's holidays:
- Village offices will be closed Thursday, Dec. 31 and Friday, Jan. 1 in observance of the New Year's holiday.

Disposal and Recycling Guidelines for Holiday Decorations
|
|
DO RECYCLE (in toter for weekly collection): Paper gift wrap, cardboard boxes, cardboard rolls and paper greeting cards.
DON’T RECYCLE (in toter for weekly collection): Plastic or foil gift wrap, tissue paper, plastic bags, plastic cards, rope or plastic handle gift bags, tree strands, Styrofoam peanuts, packing material, glitter, ribbons, bows and string.
Holiday string lights cannot be recycled in curbside bins but can be recycled at Wilmette Public Works facility, 711 Laramie Ave. The recycling boxes are located in the visitor’s parking lot and accessible 24-hours a day through Jan. 31. Please remove lights from packaging and plastic bags.
Christmas Tree Collection
Advanced Disposal will collect Christmas trees for composting during the first two weeks of January. Please place your Christmas trees at the location of your regular recycling pickup. Residents with alley access should place trees in the alley to ensure timely collection. Only residents without alley access should place trees at the curb for collection. Trees must be free of any string lights, ornaments, tinsel, garland and plastic/fabric bag wrap.
Garland, live greens and wreaths should be disposed of through the regular solid waste program.

April 6, 2021 Consolidated Election Update
|
Wilmette voters will be able to cast ballots this spring for Village Board offices, including Village President and three Trustee positions. These are four-year terms.
A lottery was held on Dec. 29 to determine the order on the ballot for ballots received simultaneously for each of the offices. The following candidate’s names will appear on the ballot in the order presented.

COVID-19 Update: Travel Guidance, Testing, Wilmette Cases and More
|
|
Traveled Recently?
The Cook County Department of Public Health advises residents who have traveled recently, to avoid non-essential activities, including work and school if possible, for 14 days after entering suburban Cook County. If you cannot avoid work or school for 14 days after your return and are symptom-free, you may consider one of CDC’s two shortened options for reduced quarantine. Where Can I get Tested for COVID-19?
COVID-19 in Wilmette:
- As of Dec. 29, Wilmette's seven-day rolling average of confirmed daily cases is 4.0 new cases per day. To date, Wilmette has had 1,012 confirmed cases and ten residents have died of complications related to COVID-19.
- As of Dec. 29, Wilmette's seven-day rolling average for test positivity (percentage of those tested who test positive for COVID-19) is at 2.96%. Since Dec. 17, there have been 65 new cases and 1,801 new tests.

Village Construction Projects
|
|
The Village Board recently approved Phase 2 of the Neighborhood Storage Project.
Construction at Hibbard Park will begin Winter/Spring of 2021. The Phase 2 work scheduled for Spring/Summer 2021 includes:
- Hill Street (Hibbard Park to Hibbard Road)
- Glenview Road (Skokie Boulevard to Heather Lane)
- Valley View Court north of Glenview Road
- Kilpatrick Avenue North of Glenview Road
- Romona Road south of Wilmette Avenue
- Beverly Lane south of Wilmette Avenue

Dec. 31 - Jan. 1 - Village Offices Closed
Village offices will be closed Thursday, Dec. 31 and Friday, Jan. 1 in observance of the New Year's Holiday.
Jan. 12 - Village Board Meeting
The Village Board will meet remotely on Tuesday, Jan. 12 at 7:30 p.m. The meeting will be held via Microsoft Teams and broadcast live on the Village's YouTube and Channel 6.
