COVID-19 Update: Suburban County No Longer at "Warning" Level


Suburban Cook County (Region 10) is no longer at an elevated risk of COVID-19 transmission, according to the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH). While the number of new cases is above target levels (though down since last week), the number of deaths decreased to zero. 

Let's remember the three W's to keep moving in the right direction: Wear a mask. Watch your distance. Wash your hands.

COVID-19 in Wilmette:
  • As of Sept. 10, Wilmette's seven-day rolling average of confirmed daily cases is at 3.1 new cases per day. To date, Wilmette has had 292 confirmed COVID-19 cases, with 22 new cases reported in the last week.
  • The Village's seven-day rolling average for test positivity (percentage of those tested who test positive for COVID-19) is at 4.7 percent. The Region 10 test positivity rate stands at 6.2 percent, this is the metric used to determine if additional mitigation measures will be implemented by the State.  
  • Overall, there have been 7,329 tests for Wilmette, with 469 new tests in the last week.
Upcoming Village Meetings & Events

There's a lot going on this month at the Village of Wilmette! Here are some highlights - scroll down to the bottom of this email for details. 
  • The Administration Committee, which has been discussing the Human Relations Commission, will meet to finalize recommendations on appointment and selection of members next Thursday, Sept. 17.
  • The Village Board will hold its second meeting of the month on Tuesday, Sept. 22.

  • Get your papers together for the Village's annual Document Destruction event on Saturday, Sept. 26. 
Election 2020: Make Your Voting Plan Today!

Are you registered to vote? Do you plan to cast your ballot in person or vote by mail? Key 2020 Election deadlines are just weeks away, so now is the time to make your voting plan!
  • Registration: Check your voter registration status here. Online registration is open through 11:59 p.m. on Oct. 18. You can also register in-person through Oct. 6 at several locations, such as government buildings, libraries. Learn more.
  • Vote by Mail: Any registered voter can request a mail ballot. Apply as soon as possible here. You can return your completed mail ballot through the USPS or via secure drop boxes, with one located at Centennial Park (2300 Old Glenview Road) beginning Oct. 19.
  • Early Voting: Early voting will be available from Oct. 19 to Nov. 2 at Centennial Ice Rinks (2300 Old Glenview Road). Learn more and view all early voting locations.

Route Posted for Auto Historica XVI Remixed Vintage Car Parade 

The Wilmette Historical Museum has organized a vintage car parade around Wilmette on Sunday, Sept. 13 beginning at 1:30 p.m. The parade will start at 4th Street and Linden Avenue, wind its way through parts of east and west Wilmette, and end at the Museum, where the cars will be parked for a short time for viewers to get a closer, social distanced look. View the full parade route below. Please enjoy the parade at a safe distance from others and while wearing a mask. 


Village Construction Projects
The Neighborhood Storage Project is the Village's largest ever infrastructure investment and will bring flooding relief to thousands of Wilmette residents while improving access and safety for our entire community. Visit the project website for construction updates
  • Phase 1A: Storm sewer and watermain improvements
  • Phase 2: Hibbard Park stormwater storage vault
Traffic Impacts: 
  • All lane closures have been picked up. Daily lane closures will be utilized as needed for remaining work.
The Central Avenue Reconstruction and Downtown Streetscape Project will enhance lighting, sidewalks, roadways, plantings and amenities on Wilmette and Central avenues within downtown. Visit the project website for more information.  
Traffic Impacts: 
  • Central Avenue is closed to eastbound traffic between Sheridan Road and Green Bay Road. Please follow the detour and allow extra time for travel.
  • Expect congestion, temporary lane shifts and temporary blocking of parking stalls in the work area.
  • Downtown parking on Central Avenue now accommodates vehicles traveling westbound; parking on the north side of Central Avenue will be temporarily unavailable.

Sept. 13 - Auto Historica XVI Remixed Vintage Car Parade

Sept. 17 - Administration Committee Meeting
The Administration Committee of the Village Board will meet on Thursday, Sept. 17 at 7:30 p.m. to finalize its recommendations concerning the Village's boards and commissions, including the appointment and selection process of members. Sept. 22 - Village Board Meeting

Sept. 26 - Document Destruction Event
The Village and the Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County (SWANCC) will host a one-day Document Destruction Event on Saturday, Sept. 26 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the southwest parking lot of the Centennial Park & Recreation Complex (2300 Old Glenview Road). All Wilmette and SWANCC community residents are welcome (bring your ID or proof of residence). 

Sept. 29 - Municipal Services Committee
The Municipal Services Committee of the Village Board will meet remotely on Tuesday, Sept. 29 at 7 p.m. to review the Village's draft Master Bike and Active Transportation Plan.
