Illinois on Track to Enter Phase 3 of Reopening at End of May

Wilmette, along with the state of Illinois, is on track to enter Phase 3 of its five-phase reopening plan at the end of May, with modifications announced by the Governor this week. The decision to transition from Phase 2 to Phase 3 will depend on our region meeting certain testing and hospital capacity criteria. Here's what to expect in Phase 3:
  • Face coverings in public will continue to be required.
  • Gatherings of 10 people or fewer for any reason can resume.
  • Bars and restaurants will have the option to resume operations for outdoor seating only.
  • Select industries can begin returning to workplaces with social distancing and sanitization practices in place.
  • Retail establishments can reopen with limited capacity, and select categories of personal care establishments can begin to reopen with social distancing guidelines and personal protective equipment.
Read the Governor's press release for more details on Phase 3, and look out for more information about reopening on our social media channels and future E-News.

Join Us for a Virtual Memorial Day Celebration

Some of our favorite times as a community are the celebrations that bring us together, like our annual Memorial Day parade and ceremony at Village Hall. Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we will not be holding our usual Memorial Day observances this year. Instead, we're bringing the ceremony online.

Tune in on the Village's YouTube channel this Memorial Day weekend for messages from Commander Andy Haszlakiewicz of the American Legion Huerter-Wilmette Post 46 and Wilmette President Bob Bielinski, as well as a ceremonial rifle salute by the Wilmette Police Honor Guard and the laying of the wreath at the Wilmette Soldiers Memorial.

Thank you to all who have helped make this virtual commemoration a reality, especially American Legion Huerter-Wilmette Post 46.
Memorial Day Refuse Collection Impacts

Please be advised of the following refuse collection impacts next week due to Monday's Memorial Day holiday:
  • Refuse collection will be delayed by one day.
  • Friday's collection will take place on Saturday.

Stormwater Credits Update

On Wednesday, the Committee of the Whole met virtually to discuss the stormwater credits program. As a reminder, the Village has developed a  stormwater credit and incentive program  to provide financial support for all property owners who wish to install stormwater management systems that reduce their impact on our storm sewer system.

The Committee arrived at a consensus on the following:
  • Properties that have installed stormwater detention meeting Metropolitan Water Reclamation District (MWRD) requirements will be eligible for a stormwater fee credit ranging from 35% to 50%.
  • Institutional/501(c)(3) properties will be eligible for a credit of 25% of their stormwater fee.
  • Combined total credits are capped at 50% of the annual stormwater fee.
Additional information regarding program guidelines and applications will be shared prior to the start of the 3rd Quarter billing in July.
Reminder: Gas Leaf Blower Ban In Effect

To reduce noise and air pollution, homeowners and residential landscapers are prohibited from using gas leaf blowers from May 15 through Sept. 30. The Village has sent a notification to commercial landscapers, but please be a good neighbor and help prevent pollution by reminding your landscaper of the ordinance. The Village will enforce violations.
Wear Masks Properly to Protect Our Community

Wearing a mask protects you AND others by reducing the spread of airborne virus particles. It's important that everyone wear a mask in public places where physical distance is hard to maintain becau se studies indicate that even asymptomatic carriers can spread COVID-19. Make sure that your mask covers your nose and mouth, avoid touching the mask or pulling it down and throw away or wash after use. For more information about using face coverings to help slow the spread of COVID-19, visit the CDC's website . Thank you for doing your part to protect our community!

They also installed storm sewer structures to connect the new and existing storm sewers along Wilmette Avenue. Next week, crews will install a manhole on the south side of Community Park.
  • Wilmette Avenue between Locust Road and Glenview Road will be closed through late June 2020. Both West Meadow Drive and Wilshire Drive will remain closed for the next few weeks as storm sewer work continues.
