'Restore Illinois' Plan Update and What It Means to Wilmette

Gov. J.B. Pritzker's five-phase Restore Illinois Plan to reopen the State, unveiled earlier this month, divides the State into four major regions. Wilmette is in the Northeast Region (EMS Regions 7-11) that currently is in Phase 2.

The Governor's plan is driven by health metrics, including the number of COVID-19 cases in a region, the rate of transmission, as well as capacity for testing and contact tracing.

In order to move to Phase 3, a region needs a positivity rate of 20% or lower over 14 days, stable or decreased COVID-19 hospital admissions for 28 consecutive days and a surge capacity in hospitals of at least 14% of the region's available ICU beds.

Review the latest Illinois Department of Public Health data for the different regions, including the number of cases, total tests and percent positive, hospital bed and ventilator capacity and more.

The Governor recently said all areas of Illinois are on track to move into Phase 3 at the end of May. According to the Cook County Department of Public Health, Wilmette has seen 116 positive COVID-19 cases as of May 14. And, the Cook County Medical Examiner has reported five deaths in Wilmette due to COVID-19.

Remember to Get Permits for Outdoor Projects

With the cancellations of camps, festivals and other outdoor social events, many residents are looking at improvements in their own backyards. If you are planning on improving your deck or patio or installing a swimming pool, this work requires a permit from the Village prior to starting your work.

You can submit permit applications by sending them to  [email protected] . Electronic submittals are the preferred format at this time. Please review the permit  checklist  for a description of what types of submittals are required for your project. Learn more .
Thank You, Wilmette, for Making Our Community Count
We are almost there, Wilmette! Our 2020 census response rate is at 79.9%, only 2.9% away from our 82.8% target. Your response helps to direct billions of dollars in federal funds to local communities for schools, roads and other public services - critical funding that communities need now more than ever.

You can complete the census online, by phone or by mail and it only takes about 10 minutes.
