Message from Village Manager Rebecca Ewald
|
|
Starting last week, the Village began to receive a number of phone calls and inquiries related to the demolition permit request for 3534 N. Lake Drive. The Village wants to be transparent in regards to the review process; so I wanted to take a moment to fill you in on those steps.
The permit is currently under review by the Planning and Development Department. Exterior alterations to residential properties, such as demolition, are required to be approved by the Design Review Board (
225.12E(1)). The Design Review Board reviews the proposed final state of alterations. In the case of full demolition, the Design Review Board would look at either the proposed new structure or a site restoration plan.
Based on approval, demolition permits and an erosion control plan are required. If construction of a new structure does not commence within 30 days of demolition, implementation of the site restoration plan shall be required (
225-5A).
Community members are welcome to provide their comments at a Village Board meeting or Design Review Board (DRB) meeting; however, based upon the process outlined in the Village code, if the property owner complies with the requirements, the Village is not certain there is basis to deny the application.
The DRB meeting is scheduled for June 20 at 5:00 p.m. and community members are welcome to attend. Should you any additional questions, please contact Planning and Development Director Bart Griepentrog at
bgriepentrog@villageofshorewood.org.

The Village is working with community partners again on planning this year's Fourth of July parade and celebration.
For the parade, the Village needs a number of volunteers willing to coordinate the parade lineup. In addition, the Village is in need for fun vehicles to transport some of the parade participants. Convertibles and jeeps tend to work the best.
If you would like to volunteer or utilize your vehicle for the parade, contact Fourth of July Coordinator Sarah DeNeve at
events@villageofshorewood.org
. Please contact Sarah by Wednesday, June 19.
Stay tuned for a schedule of events on the Fourth of July. Once again, a huge thank you for the Shorewood Foundation for sponsoring the parade and celebration!

Did you know?
The North Shore Health Department receives a grant from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR), through the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to conduct beach monitoring for presence of E. coli at the three Lake Michigan beaches in our area—Atwater in Shorewood, Klode in Whitefish Bay, and Doctor’s/Tietjen in Bayside/Fox Point.
We work with the Shorewood DPW and the North Shore Water Commission to test water at least twice a week using the Most Probable Number (MPN) method. Look for beach advisory signs to gauge safe water conditions. Green signs represent <235 MPN/100 mls of water tested, indicating that the water is unlikely to contain disease causing levels of organisms. Yellow signs signify levels of 235-1000 MPN/100mls and an Advisory (Caution) level. If 1000 or greater MPN/100 mls is measured, the beach will be closed, signified by a Red sign. If you would like to check before you head for the beach, current status of E. coli levels in most Wisconsin beaches, including the North Shore beaches, is also available at:
https://www.wibeaches.us.
Please note that as water conditions can change rapidly, should you choose to swim in open water; showering immediately afterwards is always recommended, as is thorough hand washing before consuming any picnic items you may have brought along.
