As you will read below, we are moving forward with efforts to certify all of the beautiful and historic trees we have in the Village.

With the start of hurricane season, one of the most important steps you can take to preserve our beautiful tree canopy is to make sure they are ready for a storm.

Trimming trees before a hurricane is crucial for safety and property protection. Overgrown or dead branches can become dangerous projectiles during high winds, causing damage to homes, vehicles, and power lines.

Properly trimmed trees are less likely to uproot or break, reducing the risk of injury and property destruction. Regular maintenance also helps trees grow stronger and more resilient to storms.

We have already had a wet start to the season. This has the potential to saturate the ground and further weaken the trees. Please make sure all the trees on your property are ready for a storm. Preparation now will lead to less potential damage later.

New lights are in!

Have you looked up and noticed? We have some new designer streetlights in the Village. The upgraded lights are the last step in the project to underground our electric power lines.

The style was selected by the Village Council. The new lights are the latest project to enhance the beautification of the village.

MEET OUR TEAM

Meet Dontay Hall

We are excited to share our first edition of our new campaign "SERVICE PROVIDED - PAR EXCELLENCE," introducing the men and women who work for our Village.

This month, meet: DONTAY HALL, Maintenance Worker.

How long have you worked in the Village of Golf?

  • I have worked for the Village of Golf for nine years.

Can you briefly describe the work you do for the Village?

  • I keep the Village looking beautiful. I take care of maintenance inside and outside, including landscaping and refuse pickup. I make sure the Village stays looking clean and crisp.

What do you like most about your job?

  • The residents. I love the Village and all the neighbors here are the sweetest people. I used to be an introvert, but working here has taught me how to open up, grow, and be myself. I love all the people here.

What can be the most challenging thing about your job?

  • I always want to give the job everything and sometimes it's hard to separate it from personal life when I get home.

What is something in your personal life you are most proud of?

  • My two daughters. I love being a dad and my girls are my joy, my sunshine, my happiness.

Do you have a message for Village residents?

  • Honestly, just two words: Thank you.

“Dontay is one of the most self-driven people I have ever worked with, and I have been doing this work for more than 30 years. He knows exactly what he needs to do every day and does it with a song and a smile. Make sure you wave to Dontay when you see him out picking up your household trash on Tuesdays and Fridays. You’re sure to get a big smile and a wave back!”

Do we know how to reach you?

Hurricane season is here. If a storm approaches, the Village will be sending out important pre- and post-storm information via email. Make sure you are on the list to receive information on the last scheduled pre-storm debris removal, the latest public safety information and important updates from the Village Manager before and after the storm.

Contact Village Hall to ensure we have your current email address and phone numbers.

Two new members of our Village Hall team

We are pleased to announce the addition of two new members of the Village of Golf team.

The Village has contracted with a new arborist. The arborist will certify the Village's historic and specimen trees.

We also have hired a new building official to assist with our transition to a fully electronic system by the end of the year.

Don't leave it behind

It is the time of year when some of our residents are gone for the summer. With that comes mail forwarding.

If you have not made arrangements for your mail, or you have a few questions, you may contact Village Hall.

Be safe when walking in the Village.

If you are walking in the Village, you should exercise proper safety measures. Follow the rules of the road and obey signs.

  • Walk facing traffic and as far from traffic as possible.

  • When cars approach, please walk single file.

  • Cross streets at intersections. Look for cars in all directions, including those turning left or right.

  • If not at an intersection, locate an area where you have the best view of traffic. Continue watching for traffic as you cross.

  • Watch for cars entering or exiting driveways, or backing up in parking lots.

  • When walking in low light, wear bright colors and carry a flashlight.

We started. Now it's your turn.

With the undergrounding project completed there is now brand new landscaping around the large green transformer boxes.

Please remember it is your responsibility to water and maintain the new landscaping.

If you have a transformer box with new plants on your property, please make sure your landscaper knows to include them in regular maintenance. Since it is considered new landscaping, it falls under the watering rules for new landscaping. Specifically:

  • Regular watering days do not apply for up to 90 days after planting.
  • For the first 30 days after planting, you may water any day except Friday regardless of your address.
  • For days 31 through 90, you may water any day except Tuesday and Friday.

After 90 days, the watering returns to your normal schedule dictated by your house number.
