Thank you to the Village of Black Earth

The Village of Black Earth Public Works Department continues to provide excellent support to the Village while we search for a new Public Works Director. An extended thank you is needed for their support and guidance to our crew!

Barking Dogs

Over the past several weeks, Village Administration has received complaints of barking dogs in the Village. The Village has an Ordinance to address resident's concerns (158-13):

"It shall be unlawful for any person knowingly to keep or harbor any dog which habitually barks, howls, or yelps...to the great discomfort of the peace and quiet of the neighborhood or in such a manner as to materially disturb or annoy person in the neighborhood who are of ordinary sensibilities. Such dogs are hereby declared to be a public nuisance. A dog is considered to be in violation of this section when two formal, written complaints are filed with the Village Board or Chief of Police within a four-week period."

Should you experience nuisance dogs in your neighborhood, please contact the Dane County Non-Emergency Number at 608-255-2345 for an Officer to respond.

Leaf Season Has Arrived

The Village's equipment is ready to get to your leaf piles. Collections will begin within the next few days.

A few helpful hints:

Please be sure your piles do not consist of sticks, rocks, and brush as these damage our leaf machine.

Leaf piles shall be placed on the terrace and not in the street to prevent storm drain blockage.

Be patient as the Village continues to operate understaffed in Public Works. The crew will make every effort to collect in a timely manner.

Lion's Park Dumpster

Recently it has been brought to the attention of several staff members, the dumpster at Lion's Park is being utilized as a personal refuse dump site for residents of the Village. We have found mattresses, tires, and other furniture in the dumpster. If you have large items to dispose of, please contact Peterson Sanitation to arrange for collection at 608-524-6603.

This dumpster is for park users only and is not to be utilized for personal trash deposit. If you witness someone illegally dumping refuse in the container, please retrieve the vehicle's license plate number and call Dane County Non-Emergency at 608-255-2345 and citations will be issued.

317 State Street Razing

The home and 2 outbuildings at 317 State Street will be razed the week of October 6th.

This property was recently acquired by the Village using Federal money as part of the Village's flood control plan.

You may experience temporary traffic disruptions with construction equipment, MG&E gas line removal, and dumpster retrievals.
