At the heart of Villanova's esteemed graduate program are professors who have distinguished themselves in their fields and who continue to pave the way for the next generation of great theatre-makers and scholars. Villanova educators write plays that win Pulitzer Prizes, develop new works recognized by the Tony Awards, earn Steinberg New Play Citations, regularly win Barrymore Awards and establish groundbreaking artistic coalitions. Our critically-acclaimed faculty actively publish research that analyzes the embodiment of stage directions, examines celebrity pregnancy and illuminates previously-unheard stories.

The Graduate Theatre program at Villanova offers a distinct fusion of inspiring academic work and practical production experience.

As a student, you will have the opportunity to expand your mind through courses such as dramaturgy, script analysis, directing, acting, playwriting and more.

You will also join a producing theatre company that collaborates and performs in the brand-new, state-of-the-art John and Joan Mullen Center for the Performing Arts. Our seasons feature a broad theatrical repertoire showcasing classics, contemporary plays, musicals and new works still in development!

Philadephia: A Theatre City Unlike Any Other

The greater Philadelphia area is home to a bustling theatre scene that employs thousands of artists year-round. Villanova is just 12 miles west of the second-largest city on the East Coast. And getting there is remarkably easy -- hop on a train (we have three rail stops on campus) or use a ride- or car-sharing service (we've got quite a few options!).

Our Master's Program alumni are employed by nearly every major theatre company in the region, including the Walnut Street Theatre, Arden Theatre Company, People's Light, Delaware Theatre Company and The Wilma Theater.

Boasting a robust creative economy, the region features the work of hundreds of performing arts organizations and festivals throughout the year including the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts and the internationally-renowned Philadelphia Fringe Festival.
