Staff Pick - Dawn Dollerschell
Anyone familiar with our Barrington store knows the fun that is Dawn. Part of the Vin Chicago magic for over a decade, wine is in Dawn's DNA. She grew up tasting homemade wine at her grandmother's house in Dundee and solidified her love of wine on a long ago trip to Naples. Today she presents a beauty of a French white as her staff pick, and we think she has made an OUTSTANDING choice. Read below for her thoughts, then click the links to nab your bottle!

Domaine Bouchie-Chatellier "Argile a S"
Pouilly-Fumé 2020
This time of year I am always looking for a summer white that can seamlessly transition into the fall without skipping a beat, and for me that is Loire Valley Sauvignon Blanc, Pouilly-Fumé to be exact!
The versatility of this ripe dry white wine is incredible, and it is very food friendly. At first taste you will find hints of lemon and grapefruit which are followed by apricot and stone fruits with a subtle herbal note.
The flinty minerality of this wine gives way to a slightly smoky lingering finish which pairs well with grilled garlic and ginger shrimp and scallop linguine in a lemon cream sauce. Enjoy this Pouilly-Fumé all summer long and well into the fall. Cheers!

Peter's Pick - 2018 Viña Alberdi
It's been several years since we've been able to feature the wines of La Rioja Alta, and *WOW* are we glad to have them back! At Gabe's suggestion, we popped a bottle of the Viña Alberdi at our Elston Avenue store a few weeks ago for the whole team to taste. The response was electric. It was the first time I had tasted this vintage and my jaw dropped. I've always liked the Alberdi, and this 2018 takes things to the next level. Rioja drinkers are going to love it, but so will everyone else. There is nuance, character and enough power to allow you to serve it to your Cab loving friends too. At our price, you are going to love this!

La Rioja Alta "Viña Alberdi"
Rioja Reserva 2018
92/100 - Wine Advocate (7/14/2022) "This is a super- Viña Alberdi, which shows more Crianza style in this cooler vintage but with very good depth and complexity, perhaps a more modern and fresher style. The wine has a seamless palate and a juicy texture, with more color than other vintages, more intensity, more fruit... It has grapes from very good vineyards and poor soils that were never destined for this wine. Highly recommendable and very versatile. It has potential to age."

Our Greek Wine Selection is Being Rebuilt!
Many of you know that the top importer of Greek wine, Ted Diamantis, lives just a few miles from our Elston Avenue store. It was rather embarrassing, therefore, when we received a call from him two weeks ago asking why the *heck* we didn't have even a single bottle of Greek wine at the shop. We have begun rectifying our oversight. So far, we have brought in three deliciously crisp and satisfying whites. Click below to read out these offerings from Skouras and Mylonas, and stay tuned for many more white and reds from throughout Greece in coming weeks!
