Siblings Needed Patience

Exposure to drugs before their birth caused lasting consequences for Vincent and Genevieve, four and three. Their sleep was inconsistent and their behaviors challenging. A few months after moving in with their great-grandparents, their CASA volunteer received a phone call. The children's behaviors were too much, and the family wanted to surrender them to Child Protective Services.  Visit Dallas CASA's blog   to learn more.

National Adoption Day Creates Forever Families

Dallas County's annual National Adoption Day was held on Nov. 17. On this special day, judges and court officials donate their time to expedite adoptions for children living in the protective care of the state.

Among the children were Robert and Kelsey, ages 11 and 10. For six years in care, their only constant adults were their advocates Ginger Jordan and Kathy Seiling. Roommates in college and now both retired, Ginger and Kathy became CASA volunteer advocates together. They never expected the case to go on so long and were overcome with emotion seeing the children adopted by their forever family on National Adoption Day.

"We as their CASAs have been their only constant since they came into care as caseworkers, foster homes and case managers have changed again and again," said Kathy. "That's not to say it's been easy. There have been many times we were ready to throw in the towel. But we have learned to be persistent on behalf of these children."
