The Vines CA News

Nuthatch Lane Gate

The Nuthatch Lane gate remains closed. The electronics were damaged due to water infiltration during Ian. The problem was not immediately apparent but corrosion subsequent to the storm resulted in failure within a few weeks. Parts are on order and we are impatiently awaiting their arrival. Maybe Santa can be persuaded that we were all good boys and girls this year and deserve a Christmas present!

Rail to Trail Update

On December 7th, the MPO made a presentation to the Estero Village Council on the status of the Rail to Trail Committee. A number of Vines residents and ECC members attended to listen and support our opposition to the proposed route through our community and golf course.

In addition to Vines residents and ECC members there were a large number of attendees in support of the trail. They were represented by an organized group with over 1,000 members called Friend of BERT (Bontia Estero Rail Trail) wearing blue shirts with the group's logo.

The MPO presentation discussed the pros and cons of alternate routes including some presented by Vines residents. Based upon their presentation it appears that the cost to purchase the railroad in addition to the construction costs will far exceed their estimate of $100 million. They stated that thus far they have no funds committed for construction or purchase of the railroad. They also indicated that a realistic timetable for completion would be a minimum of 10 years.

Noel Davies, an attorney representing the Vines and ECC made a statement of our opposition to the proposed rail to trail route through the Vines and submitted a resolution for the Village Council's consideration for Estero Parkway to be the north end of the trail.

Non Resident Barcode Reminder

Non-resident barcodes will expire on December 1. To renew your barcode please present your driver's license plus vehicle registration along with a check in the amount of $50 payable to Vine Community Association to security at the main gate. Security will verify ECC membership using a list provided by the ECC. Barcodes are issued between 8 and 2 Monday through Saturday.

Without a barcode you will not be able to enter the Nuthatch Lane gate and must stop at the main gate each time you enter the community.

Ian Cleanup

Recovery continues and cleanup is nearly complete. FEMA will be removing the debris piles in the cut-de-sacs through the end of the year.

LANAI CAGE REPLACEMENT REQUIREMENTS

An ARC Form and prior approval is required for replacement of lanai cages. Forms and instructions are available on the VCA website on the Documents page.

Please note that a building permit must also be obtained from the Village of Estero.

Both the ARC and the Village are providing quick approval.

Failure to get prior ARC approval or permits could result in a fine.

SLOW DOWN!

The speed limit within the Vines is 23 miles per hour. Our streets are narrow and we have no sidewalks. Please obey the speed limit and exercise caution when passing! Your neighbor's life depends upon it!
