Owner: Lars Christiensen
Where do you live?
Denmark
Vehicle: 1949 3100 Stepside Pickup
How long have you owned this vehicle?
1 Year
Where did you get this vehicle? Bought it via an agent in Indiana
What was the story behind the vehicle? An old man moved to Indiana, Normal City near Muncie around 1980. He lived on the banks of White River, and wanted to make something people would remember and talk about. He painted it white and put on the graphics.
What condition was it in when you got it? Rough, it had not been maintained in many years.
What kind of work have you done to this vehicle? Brakes, suspension, new motor (1969 camaro 230 6 inline), rebuild gearbox, interior, wider wheels, tires
bed , all rubber details, a lot of other small details.
What was the hardest part to find? Original 16 inch wheels are almost impossible to find here in Europe, I don’t understand why Filling station and other don’t sell 16 in wheels in 5-7 in wide, and then of course everything will have to be bought in US. But I have the parts in about a week (thumbs up)
What other vehicles do you own? A small Fiat Seicento and a Lancia Ypsilon
prior to the pickup I had a old Ford popular 1956 which I have sold, I don’t have space for more cars.
Do you have any other projects you are working on or plan to start soon? In the future repairs on the cab, new floor pan and firewall, blasting and painting the chassis.
Do you have any advice for people thinking about starting a restoration? Start with the most difficult and time consuming, take small steps instead of complete dismantle of the car.
Are there any interesting stories you can share with us about your experiences with this vehicle? It makes a lot of talk, but I only have driven it for this summer, so I think there will be many summers of fun
