District 7 representative of Bedford County school board announces resignation

District 7 representative on the Bedford County School Board, Martin Leamy, announced his resignation, effective Monday. In a public statement posted on his Facebook page, Leamy said he has steadily been taking on more roles with several volunteer organizations over the past year, and has found himself "overcommitted."

Arlington County schools to launch test-to-stay program later this month | WTOP News

Arlington County Public Schools, in Virginia, is planning to launch its test-to-stay program Feb. 14, a school spokesman said. The coronavirus testing will initially be offered to students only, for free, at Syphax Education Center from 2:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. on school days.

City Schools To Approve Updated Capital Improvement Plan

The Harrisonburg City School Board is set to approve an updated five-year capital improvement plan that contains projected construction and renovation projects for the school division through 2027. Each year the School Board approves an updated CIP budget that includes new projects or postpones projects that are not needed yet.

Chesterfield parents gather for pro-mask rally outside budget meeting

CHESTERFIELD, Va. (WWBT) - A group gathered outside Meadowbrook High School in Chesterfield Monday evening for a pro-mask rally. The Friends of Chesterfield Public Schools Coalition group stood outside the school chanting while the superintendent conducted a budget town hall inside.

Stafford eyes boundary changes to fix school overcrowding

The Stafford County School Board will consider changing the attendance zones for Hartwood and Park Ridge elementary schools and Drew Middle School to relieve overcrowding next school year. Division staff presented boundary adjustment options for these schools and proposed adding six relocatable classrooms to Conway Elementary School at a School Board budget work session Saturday morning.

Augusta County School Board appoints retired educator to open South River District seat

VERONA - Steve Troxell will take his seat on the Augusta County School Board on Thursday night. Troxell was one of three applicants for a vacant seat representing the South River district. The seat became vacant after Tom Goforth resigned with two years remaining on his term.

Treating Louisa schools' maintenance crew for their dedication during snow storm

LOUISA COUNTY, Va. - When a snow storm hit Louisa County during the first week of the year, Todd Weidow and his maintenance crew at Louisa County Public Schools worked around the clock to clear the snow and trees so people without electricity and heat could get to the emergency shelter held at the middle school.

First day of no mask mandate or contact tracing in Hanover County Public Schools

HANOVER COUNTY, Va. (WWBT) - Monday, Jan. 31 marked the first time in nearly two years that wearing a mask was entirely optional for students in Hanover County. The school district also is doing away with contact tracing. All of this is stirring mixed reactions from parents and community members, who remain largely divided.

Roanoke City Public Schools provides updates to contract tracing and COVID cases

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) - Roanoke City Public Schools (RCPS) is changing its policy regarding contact tracing and exposure based on the Virginia Department of Health's (VDH) guidance. According to VDH, health officials will not be performing contact tracing for every COVID case. This decision was announced on Monday, Jan. 25.

Fairfax County Public Schools COVID-19 test-to-stay program begins

Fairfax County Public Schools began its COVID-19 test-to-stay program Monday at seven schools in their district. The program was designed to allow students who were close contacts to COVID-19 positive individuals who were exposed at school to remain in the classroom instead of quarantining at home.

Virginia Education Broadband Grant

Valued up to $30,000- Applications must be received by February 18, 2022

In honor of VSBA’s 115th Anniversary, a thank you for your work as school board members, and in service to Virginia’s children: Kajeet partnered with VSBA to announce the first-ever Virginia Education Broadband Grant program. This funding opportunity will help school board members continue the important work being done to ensure all students have digital learning access at school and at home.


In total, Kajeet will award over $250,000 in broadband services to Virginia school

boards to solve the digital divide and ensure that all students have access to learn, anytime, anywhere.


Kajeet will award 9 winners (one per VSBA region). Award winners will be announced at VSBA Regional meetings this Spring. To learn more information and to submit your application visit the link below.
