14 students injured after school bus crash in Accomack; driver facing charges

ACCOMACK COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) - A school bus driver and several students were sent to a local hospital after their bus crashed in Accomack Wednesday morning. Just after 9 a.m., a state police spokesperson alerted WAVY that troopers were at the crash scene, on Pungoteague Road just north of Boggs Road.

Separation of Virginia history standards and curriculum causes questions - Virginia Mercury

As communities and experts review Virginia's K-12 history and social science standards, many anxiously await its companion guide, the curriculum framework. Superintendent of Public Instruction Jillian Balow last month told the Board of Education that she decided to decouple the curriculum framework from the draft history and social science standards because the combination led to "vague" and "confusing information" for general public consumption.

New curbs imposed on student cellphone use to stop fight videos - SoVaNOW: Home of The News & Record and The Mecklenburg Sun

The Mecklenburg County School Board is cracking down on cellphone usage by students after video of high school fights and cyberbullying made their way onto the internet. The cellphone policy approved by trustees at their Nov. 21 board meeting adds new consequences for students caught using their cellphones or other electronic devices during school hours.

Roanoke City Public Schools announces 2023 Teacher of the Year award recipient

ROANOKE, Va. - Roanoke City Public Schools has announced the recipient of their Teacher of the Year award: Adria Cintron. RCPS officials made the announcement on Tuesday evening. Adria Cintron is an eighth-grade teacher at Woodrow Wilson Middle School and was filled with emotion when she won the award.

Loudoun School Board Adopts 180-day Student Calendar for 2023

The School Board on Tuesday adopted a 180-day student calendar for the 2023-2024 school year that would have classes start Aug. 24, more than a week before Labor Day. The board majority rejected efforts to reduce the number of teaching days and to add a Veterans Day school holiday.

Eight months after Fox fire, all fire code violations within Richmond schools are now fixed

RICHMOND, Va. -- More than eight months after Fox Elementary was destroyed by a massive fire, all Richmond Public Schools have been cleared of their previous fire safety violations. The milestone comes after RPS faced scrutiny for schools having improperly working fire alarms and hundreds of existing violations at the time of the Fox blaze.
